Beware. Scam selling old, repackaged grey market junk.

This is a cheap fix for a dodgy internal DVD drive that is no longer available. Quick to connect via USB cable and transfer speeds are acceptable.
It met my expectations fully and delivery was carried out expediently.extremely satisfied with the dealership Bob –

Don’t buy this. This did not come with a cord first of all. It does not do anything at all. It won’t work. It starts with a drive support pop up and your only option is to pay for support. No way. HP does not even recognize this product/ zero support for drivers or any updates on there web pages. This is worthless. Last straw for me and HP. They already lost me as a customer for laptops and then printers. This company is basically single handedly is creating E waste trash dumps across the country. They just stop or don’t support perfectly good hardware.

This is my second purchase of this terrific external optical drive — both work fantastic. They play all my CDs & DVDs without issue. They download all my software discs just fine (it’s great to actually “own” my older software and have greater control over how I use it).
I installed my first optical drive with Velcro to the back of my HP All-In-One desktop monitor. Looks professional, it takes up zero desk space, and it’s always where I want it. The second one is used as a typical external optical drive for my HP laptop when needed. Both drives perform just fine every time.
As far as compatibility, both drives work great on any of the USB-2 or high-speed USB-3 ports on my computers. I have not encountered any compatibility or format issues. They play any disc in my considerable collection without issue and they quickly burns CDs & DVDs just fine.
Before purchasing, I contacted HP and was informed that most of the models sold on Amazon are virtually the same drive with slightly different part numbers (for internal HP reasons). The prices of these models vary considerably, but apparently the performance does not.
Please pay no attention to the negative reviews and ignorant comments posted. Some folks wouldn’t know which end to grab a tool. This is an excellent external drive… and at $35 (now $28.99), it can’t be beat. Check it out for yourself.
