I am completely satisfied with this light, although there are a few things that could be better.
pros:
1 qualitatively made
2 good spectrum of light
3 wide functionality, with programming to meet your needs
4 built-in timer
5 the plants are thriving
and cons:
1 could be a little brighter for this size
2 every time it is turned off, you need to reprogram the timer, which is not easy at all
3 the mount could be higher… it’s too close to the surface for me.
I don’t regret that I bought this light, because the plants grow like crazy from it, you can see it in the future I would consider buying the light and timer separately, in case of a power outage this set would work more reliably

The timer control works great but takes a bit to get used to. But you only need to figure it out once. Have to reset if you loose power.
Plants are doing much better with this light than many others I have had.

Update 3/20/24:
I contacted Hygger directly for support on the sound the light made while plugged in but timed to the off setting. (High pitched whirr.)
They were incredibly helpful. Did ask if I had an extra adapter, which I didn’t. This was my first purchase from them. Proceeded to send out a replacement adapter immediately. (The adapter is the portion that plugs into the timer, timer is built into the light.) Though it took a few weeks to receive, it fixed the sound instantly.
PLEASANTLY SURPRISED: Even though I unplugged the light completely while swapping out the adapter, the timer on the light maintained all of its settings minus the real time. So, I did not have to go through setting my times again. Which I was very excited about.
Will update again if the sound comes back.

I really needed a quality light for my 20L. Purchased the 24-30inch after reading that its a recommended light in the hobby. Just had more plants than my small light could cover.
The settings were a bit confusing (I didn’t realize how to set it is also posted here on the listing, so thats a bonus for others to use).
However… After a few days of running, certain percentages/frequencies of light I can HEAR an itty bitty buzzing sound. Which drives me absolutely batty. I have to completely walk away when I can. And, often just tolerate it, because this tank is in my bedroom.
Though, I would assume not all the units do this, I did find one other review in Oct/23 that mentions this.
For the price, and quality… I didn’t expect this. Won’t be returning it or anything, as I need the light at this point. More hoping that the company responds to my review and works with me to replace it? (Couldn’t find the direct message option, Hygger, for that I apologize.)
Overall, its a great light, mine just has a little something off about it.

I don’t have this thing ever above 60% brightness. I feel like I’ll give my fish a sunburn if I go higher!
Programming is not easy, but you’ll get used to it. The programming does save.. if you lose power, you won’t be reprogramming it all. But, the timer stops working because the clock is wiped. So once you get power back, you have to reset the time and then the light will come on to the proper setting for the time of day.

A great full spectrum light for your planted aquarium. There are couple of handy features that makes this light stand out: you can set the timer so that it automatically turns on/off. When the light turns on and off, the intensity changes during the transition slowly so that it doesn’t shock the fish. You can program the light for different time intervals during the day. The light frame is thin, but sturdy and well built. The light stands on both ends are extendable. I use this for a 55 gallon tank, and it fits perfectly.

It’s altogether very easy to program, though can be a bit confusing at first. I previously had an older Hygger model and replaced it with this after it was showing signs of failing. This hg999 is a much needed improvement. I wasn’t expecting it to be half as wide as the older lamp. A major plus. And wow is it bright! I love the greater variety of colors possible and the various options for programming. I have it set on diy mode so the lamp simulates sunrise and sunset and then stays on 10% red overnight. It’s nicer on the eyes at night than blue light so it works out for everyone. I’m happy that, because the lamp is a lot wider and much brighter, the lighting is a lot more effective on my aquarium. I will look into getting a couple more of these for my other aquariums. (=
