The unit failed within a month of owning the 3/8 ratchet. The unit functions when it fails but lacks any torque. IR replaced the unit immediately the first time around. The second unit lasted 3 months and it failed with exactly the same problem (no torque). This time, it went to a repair center. Took 1 week to get a label, 1 week to go to the service center in transit, 2 weeks at the repair center, and now 1 week for the return shipping transit time. This is unacceptable for such an expensive tool. If it fails again, I’m going to request my money back for the unit. In the meantime, my 1/4in Milwaukee ratchet has been running without fail for over 8 months.

While I haven’t owned this long enough to give it a durability score, if it’s anything like the rest of my IR collection, it will do just fine.

It is extremely comfortable to hold, and balance is great with the battery installed. A little on the heavy side and will wear you out with prolonged use. The weight is the only downside, and the reason for deducting a star.

Build quality is superb! Mostly metal, and the few plastic parts are well put together and high quality.

Function is great. This thing has more than enough power to get the job done. I’ve used it a few times and have never been disappointed.

I will update my review as time goes on, but based on first impressions; This one is a winner!

This is an outstanding battery powered ratchet. I work in heavy industry and many of my co-workers have Snap-On, MAC, Milwaukee and other assorted cordless ratchets. This Ingersoll Rand ratchet by far out performs them. It had almost 10 ft/lbs more torque than the closest competitor. And many more ft/pounds more torque than the average. It also has a much better battery placement allowing a much more flatter profile and fitting into the typical places where such a ratchet is used. I would strongly recommend over any other big name cordless ratchet.

    UPDATE:
Going on a couple of years now and the ratchet and battery are still going strong. To be clear though, the one battery version I received had a 1.5 Ah battery. The 2.5 Ah battery is much larger (almost twice the size) and I think it would preclude the reason for getting the ratchet as it would interfere with the slimline fit of the ratchet as a whole.

Heavy duty, good for professional and diy projects.
Not a toy and will twist off nut and bolts if your not careful.
    Great battery life.
    Highly recommend

Runs hot when in use for extended periods. Weight is what I would have expected, a bit heavy but the ease of use totally makes this a great replacement for your pneumatic ones.

    Update:
I beat this thing hard for two years and it did finally go on me. A lot on money get the warranty and get a new one and a new warranty. That makes the investment worth it. IMO

I considered buying this item for a long time before finally purchasing it. I work as an agricultural equipment technician and often need to remove panels and other similar things. This ratchet has the power to spin through nyloc nuts of at least M12 size without “hand ratcheting” and is capable of breaking loose stubborn fasteners that require a good pull on the handle. I have overloaded the ratchet but that comes from grabbing the battery for extra leverage, so don’t do that. I really like the variable speed trigger control as it also reduces the torque applied when it “stalls” so it is easier to prevent over torqueing fasteners, yet full power is enough that you have to want to go tighter when you pull on the handle to tighten further. Great tool and will be adding to my IR cordless tool collection.

As a side note, the batteries that come with this ratchet to not fit the IR cordless drill (D5140) even though one would expect them to.

This is a very nice kit. Cordless ratchet, 2 batteries and a charger in a sturdy, easy to carry case. Yes, it is heavier than an air ratchet and it is bigger than an air ratchet, but come on how big and heavy is an air compressor. You break the nut or bolt loose like a regular ratchet and then the motor spins the nut or bolt the rest of the way off. It will save a great deal of time and energy over cranking the fitting off with a hand ratchet. Ratchet has a good deal of torque for it’s size. 3/8 inch is a good size for smaller fittings up to larger fittings, within reason. This is a useful, timesaving tool that is well made and useful. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to save time and energy when doing repairs on your car, cycle, boat, truck, etc.. If you don’t own an air compressor or need to do work where it is not practical to lug an air compressor to the site.

This ratchet rocks. I love it. I got all Dewalt stuff and use them constantly but they had no ratchet options and they are more wood working tools than mechanics tools. This is a size my impacts can’t reach and will save your arms in tight spaces. It’s pretty strong too. Got off some bolts I didn’t think it would. You can also use it as a ratchet and its so long it gives me plenty of leverage. My wife scored getting this for my birthday, actually I scored lol.
