great set for small tires

This tire iron set is the perfect size. Not to long. Not to short. Just the right amount of leverage. The quality is first rate. Good handles will give a firm grip. The spoons are nicely smoothed out.

Yes a set of “TWO” (2) tire irons not one tire iron, 16 inches in length is plenty enough to change car, pickup and SUV tires even truck tires if you know how to, I replaced two 235/75R15 in 30 minutes and that’s dismounting and mounting with the tire irons.

These irons work well for small lawn equipment tires. They make a hard job a little easier.I replaced 2 dry rotted 16×6.50-8 tires on a garden trailer using these tools. Demounting the tires was fairly easy. Mounting the new ones was harder until I figured the correct way to do it. Then the tires went on in a few minutes. Without the tools, it would have been even harder. I’m figuring when I replace the tires on the rider soon, things will be easier The tools are solid and did not bend. They grip the tire and rim firmly and give a good amount of leverage. There is one tool for demounting and one for mounting the tire. 2 of each tool are probably necessary. My master mechanic friend speaks highly of Ken-Tool. He said they make some of the best tire stuff. He expressed some doubt as being able to change small tires with these tools. Next time he comes over, he’ll see my results. Using these tools is harder than using a tire machine. But at least it’s a good workout.

If you have a few things with small tires, these are handy to have and can pay for themselves with one or two uses. I have even used them on bigger tires sucessfully.
I’ll just add that these aren’t magic. There is a trick to using tire irons, they don’t use themselves. If you’ve never used tire irons, check out some You Tube videos to learn the tricks. Once you get the hang of it, it’s pretty easy. Two extremely useful items that help a bunch are some dish detergent as a lubricant and a pair of small vise grips to help get the tire started. Describing how to use them in print doesn’t do it justice, watching somebody do it is enormously helpful. Check out some videos, there are a lot of tricks.

great tools.

Bought and used these to pop the beads from deflated two 8-inch snow thrower tubeless tires off of the steel wheel rims to make repairs. The long lever arms provide good leverage to move tire beads over the steel rims. The arms did not bend (or I did not feel it) at all despite the amount of force I was applying. I did manage to bend the edge of one rim because I was applying too much force. The rounded spoon ends and the curved arms allowed for easier bead removal and reseating the beads on the wheels. I popped one tire bead off each wheel, cleaned the rim interior, inserted the inner tubes (dusted with talc), inserted the nozzle through the hole in the wheels, and reseated the bead using the tire irons. Pumped up the tires, and the job was done. And finally, these tire irons were made in the US.

9/24/17 Having examined the photo and the irons I received, I have two identical irons resembling the one on the bottom. I do not have an iron resembling the one on the top.
I do not know whether having two “dog legged” irons is a disadvantage or not but both inner tubed tires continue to leak air despite my diligent efforts not to pinch the tube
Lightly sprayed with soapy water, tire bead can be flexed from wheel rim in small increments. First time I removed and replaced a 15 X 6 tire in 1/2 to 3/4 of an hour. Vastly improved since then. YouTube demonstrates successful techniques. Very durable, useful tool when used properly.

While the steel in the tire irons is strong, the plastic handles definitely lack quality or were improperly installed. There is very little steel in the handle. If it went in deeper, it would probably not have broken. Am returning for a refund.

I have changed hundreds, if not thousands, of tires over the years and all by hand. I learned early that a screwdriver was not the best tool for the job. Some time back I watched a tire shop break down a stubborn tire with a hand held hammer type bead breaker. I said “I got to get me one of those”. When I found it, that was my introduction to Ken-Tools. I now have a number of Ken-Tool tire maintenance products: they are all made in the US of A and they all work superbly. For lawn mowers, motorcycles and other small tires, these little tire irons are just the ticket.
I read other reviews before getting these and couldn’t understand why some individuals didn’t like the sharp bend in one of tire irons. I use it all the time to start the tire bead over the rim for both removal and installation. Even my big truck sized tire irons have both bends, one of each on opposite ends (Ken-Tool products of course).
My only suggestion to improve the product is to have 3 tire irons in the set. It does take three to do the job as one is used the start and hold, and two more to “walk” ones way around the circumference of the tire.

These are really cool tire irons,i did 18 wheeler and off road tires for 8 years and never seen any tire irons this small, there well built, you could bend them if you put to much pressure on them, but if your putting that much pressure your probably damaging your tire in the process,it doesn’t take much pressure on the irons to mount a tire,or you can damage the bead and have separation in the long run, although I have to admit out of all the big tires ive worked on,lawn mower tires are the most difficult to mount and dismount, its better to pay someone if you don’t like getting dirty and fighting with a small tire, there just hard to get a good grip on lol they fight you,i sure love my carlisle grippers though,it was well worth the fighting them to get them on my john deere tractor mower, the tire irons here sure made it alot easier, thanks amazon, fast shipping*****

Work very well for things like lawn tractors, wheel barrows and carts. Very strong steel and great shape. Large amounts of force barely bend them at all and they are made in USA. This set comes with two irons, purchase 2 sets. Harbor Freight also has a very long one you could add to this set. Sometimes you need to hold one with your foot while you work two others, so a longer bar can help but these are where you start.
