This general paradigm (enterprise-grade, power-fail protected SSDs in this capacity range) still have a use case with nVME everywhere — nVME typically isn’t power protected at all and these, in a 2-way mirror, are fast enough that they can saturate anything on file service up to a 10Gbe connection. Thus for that sort of use they make plenty of sense and are pretty-reasonable in price, in addition to having very good durability ratings on write tolerance — and power fail protection.
No rating on longevity as I just got it; it is, however, a bit faster than the Micron 5400s that I’ve been using in this application and in this size has the EXACT same block count, so its a drop-in replacement in a mirror. I like it.

I was looking for a fast SSD drive for my Atomos Ninja V monitor/recorder. On Atomos’ own website, there’s a list of drives they’ve tested and recommend for recording 4K video at high frame rates. The drive they specifically recommend there is the Kingston DC500M. By mistake, I ordered the DC600M instead of the DC500M here on Amazon and have now received it and tested it in my Ninja V recorder. It works perfectly, and I haven’t experienced any frame dropouts in my footage. From my own experience, I can now answer and confirm the question I’ve had for a while and couldn’t find the answer to by searching Google. It works as expected!

I did not buy mine on Amazon, but the revelation (too late for me) that this, “Enterprise,” SSD does not, in 2023 when released and now into 2024 does not have TRIM, caught me entirely off guard. I admit that I assumed TRIM would just be an obvious built in feature that all SSDs would at this point posses. So I did not check, and did not find out until the refund window had closed. Framed as a monument not to assume or buy anything from Kingston again. Hope this review at least saves someone else from my fate.
