Definitely worth trying! This Kingsyard feeder works similar to an official “Squirrel Buster” (SB) brand, with the weight of a squirrel lowering the outer portion of the feeder to block access to the seed. Birds started using it after about three days and I haven’t seen any squirrels eating from it so far, after about one week. We have 3-5 squirrels eating under the feeders daily and trying to access other feeders, so the fact that they haven’t mastered this one by now is a good sign, making me optimistic that this feeder will deter the squirrels as well as our SB feeder (seen on the left in one of my photos).
Overall, this Kingsyard feeder isn’t quite as nice as our SB model. But at half the price it is pretty impressive. Compared to our similar SB model, this Kingsyard feeder holds more seeds and is easier to fill, as you only need to push the buttons to allow you to tip the top to the side to fill the hopper. The perches are made similarly too, but one perch on the Kingsyard feeder doesn’t completely stay down, having about 1/8” give when a bird lands but not causing an issue. The squirrel baffle is a nice added feature on the Kingsyard feeder; the baffle assembled and attached pretty easily. The metal is a bit thinner and there the plastic seed hopper is slightly more exposed for potential squirrel or weather damage than the SB feeder, but again, the Kingsyard feeder is very good for the price. So far, I definitely would order this feeder again but I will update my review after longer use.

I like it- hopefully the birds will too! I live in an area where we don’t put out our birdfeeders for another month or so due to bears. I will preemptively say that I expect this to look beautiful against our snowy landscape!
The feeder itself is nicely shaped, ample size and seems functionally appropriate. Not being a bird I don’t know what they prefer however the perches are adequate and the squirrel baffle will come in handy with our wiley little critters.
Aesthetically, I’m very pleased with this feeder. I chose the copper color and think it lends a certain distinction to our yard. Weathering of the item will be interesting to note as we get plenty of wet snow and how things change over the course of a season are sometimes shocking.
For now, I would highly recommend simply from my human standards of beauty!

Bought two of these a few weeks ago. They are squirrel-proof. I have bought several feeders that claim to be squirrel-proof, but weren’t even close. I even tried this “hot pepper” oil on the bird feed which required gloves and a mask. That didn’t even work and it was a hassle as well. AND, this is a gorgeous feeder. I have ordered my 3rd and can’t wait to get it! You can’t beat this for function, looks and price.

I like to keep two bird feeders and one of my plastic feeders was blown off by a strong wind, broke, and was unrepairable. My other feeder is very much like this Kingsyard Squirrel Proof Bird Feeder where perches are at the feeding ports but the port closes if anything heavy perches on it. It’s a combination of a metal outside with a plastic inside sleeve where the seeds go.
Pros:
• Much less expensive than what I paid for my other feeder – about 1/3 the price.
• A bit smaller but heavier than my other feeder, feels more solid.
• The sliding action is tight and this is important… when something heavy like a squirrel sits on the perch, the metal slides down along the plastic sleeve and closes the ports; however, if the sliding action is loose then heavier birds cannot sit on the perch without closing the port. My other feeder is loose so those birds miss out (except for scraps that fall to the ground).
• This model has a baffle as an added deterrent to squirrels. Weight on the baffle also closes the ports.
• This model has a variety of colors.
Cons:
• The outside metal sleeve on my other feeder is more cage-like so clinging birds can take advantage. This feeder doesn’t have places for clinging birds, only perching birds.
• There are directions on how to connect the baffle but you have to look really closely at the illustrations to see exactly where it is supposed to sit otherwise it won’t work right with the sliding action. It takes a bit of finagling.
• Not a big deal but the directions say to press the white button to remove the base or lid. After looking all around it there is no white button – they are black buttons.
All in all, this should be a good feeder for perching birds.
