This seems like a study bird feeder so I hope it lasts a while. I have way more squirrels visit than birds so I was hoping this would stop the squirrels. I should have known better! It slowed him down a little bit, but those little guys are smart and nimble!

Update: I do still think it’s well constructed, but our squirrels have shown a flaw in its design. The prevention technique of the spring surrounding the feeder works if the squirrel is on the feeder. Our feeder hangs from a post in the yard, so the squirrels would C climb the post, hang onto the support post with their back feet and then reach over to the perch peg and feed from the feeder with abandon. We are switching to a feeder that has the prevention mechanism attached to the perches. I suspect this feeder would work fine hanging from a tree limb.
We had a squirrel proof feeder that used a small internal spring that allowed the feeder openings to close if the weight of a squirrel was on it. Unfortunately that small internal spring could freeze up if it rained then froze. I managed to break it while trying to get it working again. When I saw that this feeder had a large external spring for blocking I thought I would give it a try.
I can say that I much prefer this new feeder. Basically the squirrel proofing is done via the large external spring. enough weight on it and the spring itself blocks the feeding holes. What I really like is how easy it is to fill. The previous one I had to take the feeder apart to fill it. This one there is a heavy sturdy top that lifts up to allow filling. Much easier method to fill. Time will tell if the squirrels figure that part out.

Nice feeder. But the squirrels are always smarter

I’ve struggled for YEARS with squirrels and chipmunks cleaning out my feeders. I tried probably a dozen ‘squirrel resistant’ feeders, including some that cost big bucks. None of them worked. THESE feeders work great! I’ve had four of them up for about a week now and not a single varmint has been successful getting to the seed, but the birds are all over them. Extremely well made and a very clever design. Very pleased so far!

Frustrating for squirrels, amusing as heck for us.
I’m sad they are not available in larger sizes but I was aware they were small when ordering.
Being wheelchair bound I can’t manage them and have to depend upon others to keep filled,; apparently they aren’t as fond of wildlife as I am😥

But it is not squirrel proof. The squirrels can hang on to it easily. But the birds love it.

It’s a nice sturdy bird feeder. However my pesky squirrel figured out how to eat out of it in about 10 minutes. He actually hung upside down from the anti squirrel wiring that goes around it and did sit ups to eat. It was very funny to watch. Good thing I don’t really care if I feed the squirrels. It is a really nice bird feeder though. It’s not going to be chewed through like my last one. I will be feeding my squirrel for years to come.

this is a great bird feed that feed the bird and the squirrels cant get at it.. easy to assemble

The plastic tubing is very thin and fragile, which was a surprise. I am not sure how long the feeder will last. It’s easy to fill and probably simple to clean. So far the food seems to keep dry in rain. I’ve been using it for a few days now. It needs to be accompanied with a squirrel baffle on the pole, or squirrels just hang from the top or the coils and access the food. Also, the holes where the food is accessed are wide open, so any swinging action started by birds or squirrels banging the pole empties the food to the ground within a few hours. No complaints from the birds or squirrels, though.
Update: the feeder lasted about two weeks then came apart. Would not recommend value for cost

If I could give a zero 🌟 I would.
Received the feeder today & was thoroughly disappointed. Cheap plastic material, flimsy and metal is rusting.
Requested refund, approved and I have to pay return postage of $30.00CDN.
They should refund my postage.
Very disappointed and not impressed.

This birdfeeder seemed to be doing a great job at first. But soon after setting it up, the birds stopped coming to it, even though it was still halfway full. I thought because we were part of the cicada emergence that they were simply uninterested in birdseed as they were being fed well otherwise. But what I came to discover was that there is a major design flaw in this birdfeeder. The lid that lifts off to fill the seed has a hole through the top that allows a wire to pass through it. This wire is what the birdfeeder hangs from. Well, although that hole is very small, rainwater was still able to slowly leak through the little hole. Because it happened very gradually I did not notice. But what this caused to happen is that the birdseed, about 1/3 of the way up, had become compacted and moldy. The birds couldn’t and wouldn’t feed there because of this. I tried to clean it out. But it was like concrete and next to impossible. And of course it would only happen again because of the design flaw in the lid. Considering the high prices of quality bird feeders, I knew I was taking a chance buying this at $16.99. I should have just opted for a better quality one and spent the money, because now I have to replace it.

We enjoy that this is easy to fill and clean. The birds are happy, too as the food stays somewhat dry because the rain stays on the outside of the shaft. It is not squirrel proof though– the design stops grey squirrels, but smaller, and more agile red pine squirrels will perch on the bird wire and eat from the adjacent opening.
