The biggest plus for this one and the reason I bought it is that is has NO STYROFOAM Yay!!! The last one I had I had to toss after 2 summers because the styrofoam got moldy and there was no way to clean or replace it – what a waste of money! And DUH of course it got moldy – Sumer is hot and humid and styrofoam is porous! ALL METAL inside, yay!
Second plus – it works great!! Cools my whole 980 sq foot place (minus the bedroom so a little less than that total.) I was worried this wouldn’t work as well as I had hoped since it didn’t seem to have more air coming out than my last one which was 8,000 BTUs. But this one definitely cools better – my place is around 980 sq feet and other than the bedroom (I have the door closed to that) it cools the whole place including my separate 2nd bedroom which I just leave the door open to.
Third plus – The energy saver feature works great also – in the past I’ve found these don’t cool well enough to be left on during the day, but this one does. I left it on for a week when I went on vacation (for the pets) and it stayed cool the whole time. I’ve tested this since I got back and it works really well, keeping the place at 72.
Remote works great and a nice feature.
One negative with the caveat that I watched someone else put this together (mostly watched, was not in the room the whole time) – I hired a handyman to install this and it took him over an hour and there were lots of screws and an instruction manual – it looked complicated and I was glad I hired someone. It’s very large and heavy so he did want to put lots of screws in the window but still…looked a lot more complicated than I anticipated. But maybe this is the norm for 10,000 BTU air conditioners? I don’t know. But I wouldn’t have been able to do it myself, not being handy (and being averse to instruction manuals haha!). I would recommend buying a window brace in addition to the unit itself – I bought one but it was deficient so I went ahead without it and just made sure it was really bolted in. But it sticks out the window quite a bit and is heavy so I would recommend buying one.
But overall, very very happy with this and I would buy it again. I have had it for only 2 weeks so can’t yet speak to the longevity of it but will come back and write a FU review when summer is over.

I’ve only had this unit for a day, so these are only first impressions. I’ll definitely update as my experience continues.
The box arrived from Amazon in perfect condition, and the unit inside was new and free from any visible defects. This 10K AC unit is HEAVY! I believe shipping weight is a little over 90lbs, so either be strong and reasonably fit, or know someone who is to help move this thing. Assembly was much more involved than expected and the manual isn’t as much help as you might hope (poor, tiny illustrations with minimal text). Not all the holes lined-up properly, which is very frustrating. Assembly still took about 3+ hours, with plenty of head-scratching and staring at the little drawings and wondering which way is “the front” of the part. Mounting in my side-sliding window was easy, mostly due to my pre-mounting prep (replacing a smaller Haier system that worked valiantly for nearly 10 years before going wacky from the stress). And this completes most of my negative experience, so far.
After mounting the unit, I turned it on and was instantly hit with a steady flow of cold air! After a few minutes of ouus and ahhs, I was struck by how much quieter this system is than my last one! I tested the various fan speeds (which seem minimally different) and operational modes. All worked fine. The single AAA IR remote is simple, but works reasonably well – nothing special in distance, functions, or angle abilities.
Conclusions, at this point: the quietest AC unit I’ve ever seen/barely heard. The directional louvers on the front seem cheap and poorly made, but work as well as any I’ve ever used. The internal air path of this 10K unit is all black plastic, with no styrofoam in sight (I still gave all the path I could see a quick blast of disinfectant to a hedge against future mold). The air is cold and quiet. The front panel buttons seem professional and work as expected. The green LED display is large and clear from across the room. I run my unit on low & cool, and so far it’s doing all I expected, and so quietly! When the compressor kicks in it’s barely noticeable, just a gentle low pitched hum is added. I’m very happy overall with this AC system, and glad I bought it. As for the future – we shall see…
Update: 10 days later and still loving it!

Excellent unit quiet as hell. Cool down the room in no time one great unit except for the size and the weight for installation

Our bedroom was always hot even though the rest of our house would be downright chilly. I think the vent is just too small for the size and facing. We tried everything – heat reflecting window treatments, fans, different types of sheets – nothing worked. Finally I broke down and bought this window unit.
I did quite a bit of research before selecting this model and I’ve been super happy with it. LG is still a good brand, unlike others which have suffered a decline in quality control lately.
It was pretty easy to install. I did it myself in about an hour and a half. The worst part of lifting the unit into the frame. It’s HEAVY – about 60+ pounds to dead lift to chest height, so be careful. As for the unit itself, it does make some noise ( ALL A/C units do) but we’ve actually found it to be more of a benefit than a distraction. It’s a great white noise and drowns out some of the more annoying night time sounds – crickets, cars, tinnitus – that sort of thing. I wouldn’t call it loud by any means.
Main thing is that we’ve run this thing every night (on constantly) from about 8 PM to 6 AM and it will keep it a pleasant 68 degrees. I even put the temperature laser on it and the air coming out of the unit is 56 degrees. It’s also got a energy saver option which will cycle the unit on and off when it detects the temperature changing, which I would use if this were in a common/living area.
Best purchase I’ve made in awhile.
