Looking for a PoE+ switch with 48 ports?
I’ve been using this Linksys LGS352MPC 48 Port Gigabit Network PoE+ Switch in a home/business environment with lots of PoE and PoE+ devices. The switch has 48 Gb ports that easily handle my Ethernet, PoE, and PoE+ requirements. (740W power budget).
The switch build quality is excellent with the case being metal (I assume to reduce RF issues). The power cord is three prong and quite sturdy.
Installation was simple:
-I installed the switch in a standard 19” rack. (No rack screws were included, four required).
-Updated firmware (Strangely, firmware updates are applied through HTTP instead of HTTPs even though this is supposed to be a business class switch).
-Added new admin username, (removed old Admin)
-Configured switch to my environment
-Moved Ethernet connection over to new switch and done
Total installation and configuration time was less than an hour.
The switch is extremely loud: 60dBa-70dBa. There are three fans on the left side of the switch that can run up to 8200 rpm and they put out lots of noise. I removed all PoE+, PoE and Ethernet devices except my laptop and the sound levels didn’t change. I thought that removing the power load would allow the switch to run cooler. After 24 hours of the switch being off and only one non-PoE device attached to the switch, it didn’t make a difference. (See sound level screenshot photo). The sound level is fine for a teleco closet, but be sure the switch has lots of air conditioning to keep cool. (No settings in configuration menu for fan options).
I really like the four 10G uplink SFP+ slots. Those will be useful when I upgrade my network. Business wise, the switch also supports MAC-based port security, so you can lock down parts of your network if desired.

If you don’t need a high speed 48 port switch with POE (or have no idea what that means) you probably don’t need this beauty. But if you DO need those things, this is a good option at the price. You get a quality switch with 740 W of power (15+ watts if you have 48 POE devices) which should be enough to go around in many situations. This can be rack mounted if you need it and can higher bandwidth fiber connections as well.

For your large home network or small business, this is the solution for network management.
This IS commercial-grade gear.
Easy to install, easy to configure and great monitoring tools built in – available from a web portal on your network.
FAST ports with PoE for your phones or security cameras, it is a NICE package.
It’s nice to see the link status not only on the front panel, but through the app dashboard. I found 2 down links that I did not realize were running at slower speeds! Especially important for my wife’s craft business.
Firmware upgrades are available from Linksys and installable from your management PC – in minutes.
This is my first foray into a managed network in my home/lab, so I’ve been impressed with the security and ease of use. This is now THE hub of all network activity for my ~70 wired & wireless devices.
I’ll soon be looking for upgraded network access points to pair with this switch.

The management GUI of this switch is great, it’s easy to navigate with a thoughtfully organized menu and intuitive naming. There is also a CLI for shell access. Network management tools are fairly robust, with plenty of VLAN configurations possible for nearly any situation.
There are 4 10 gig SFP+ ports, great for high bandwidth fiber connections. The real standout feature of this particular switch model is the 48 POE+ ports with a huge power allocation of 740 watts total. This is ideal for sites that need to utilize numerous ports for security cameras, access points, or other POE devices. There is plenty of power to go around, all with an internal power supply. No wall brick or external power supply makes it easy to fit this into nearly any rack or cabinet.
Physical construction quality is excellent. Very solid feeling steel case and sturdy rack ears. Doesn’t budge once installed.
I’ve had this switch running 26 POE+ cameras for several months, have not had one hiccup so far. Very reliable. Would be happy to purchase again and recommend to clients.
