I have carried Mace brand spray for years, and am replacing a 1 year old canister. You don’t have to replace them this frequently, but at the price: why chance it? Mace is the only company that produces a key chain spray with any kind of reasonable content. Their larger size units (such as this, opposed to the personal key chain size) obviously provide more chemical agent, which is helpful in terms of having an increased chance of stopping your attacker without resorting to increased force options. I prefer their “police” model units because the canister is surrounded entirely by a decent polymer case as opposed to having the actual metallic cylinder exposed. The flip lid is also more intuitive and functional, in my opinion.
As far as the contents go, this is a decently potent OC spray (0.66% MC – compares to def-tec Orange band) combined with CN tear gas and a UV marking dye. The dye aids in ID, and the OC/CN is what will attempt to convince the assailant that you simply aren’t worth the pain/trouble.
The MC strength is plenty hot, and the combined CN agent has great synergy with the OC. Many police agencies carry OC with a major caps rating of 0.2% (def tec white band) to 0.4% (def tec X2 – now “Yellow band”). This spray is “hotter” than both, with 0.66% MC.
Also, as with any spray that contains tear gas (or is a fog/cone), extreme caution must be used if deploying in an indoor environment. The last thing you want to do is contaminate 40-50 innocent people at a shopping mall.

The Police Model purchased here in November 2014 has a March 2019 expiration.
I finally got off my duff and ordered another one, good to December 2022.
I was delighted to find that the housing was completely redesigned, considerably beefed up and with tactile and mechanical improvements to the flip cap and pressure pad. The clip was the only feature that didn’t have much utility, being stiff and difficult to slide on to a pocket or belt but easy to slide off. (Fortunately, I had no need for that.) One can see that the new clip is quite up to the task.
Even though the previous model shared energetic daily wear and tear on my belt-loop mess of keys and alarm fob, I never perceived there would be any mechanical issue should I need to bring it to bear.
In fact, even though five months expired, it provided a steady 10-12 foot stream for about 45 seconds.
Now I’ve got this one with its greatly improved housing in service. Kudos to Mace® for their attention to product development!

ones keychain cause of its size.
Females may carry it in their purse or attached to it.
Guys may carry it clipped to belt.

I have owned this product for approximately the past 15 years and it works great! Always remember to be standing upwind while using any kind of pepper spray it is not like the gel pepper spray will blow back in your face and yes, it does hurt!!! lol
Very easy to conceal very easy to use great safety feature with top flip up above dispensing button throw it in your front pocket. Nobody will ever know you even have it. The clip on the older models was a much better design and I wish they would go back to it, the clip on the newer ones like this one does have a tendency to break after time. Keep in mind I have mine on me seven days a week 10 hours a day so it may have something to do with the clip breaking but excellent choice.

This is one of the best pepper sprays I have tested. It has tear gas, a good range, great belt clip, and the option to attached to a keychain.
Some people are not affected by the OC pepper spray chemical. With tear gas, there are two powerful chemicals helping someone defend themselves.
The built-in belt clip works perfectly. It has an angled tooth. A belt slides through the tooth without effort. Once on a belt, the clip’s tooth prevents the spray from coming off the the belt. To remove the spray from the belt, it just takes a good firm pull of the spray.
It can be attached to a key chain. This would add a lot of mass to a key chain. You might like this though especially if you aren’t wearing this spray on a belt.
It shoots a clear spray. It looks like water. This makes aiming while spraying more difficult than it should be. It also makes it harder to see where the spray lands. Many other pepper sprays shoot colored spray, and this model should do that too. I deducted 1 star because of the clear spray.

I have purchased a couple dozen of these…I keep one in my car, two in my home and one on my person at all times. I have given many away to friends as gifts to assure they they are protected as well. With the rising crime in m city (as well as my state and our country), it is paramount that we protect ourselves. What I like about this device is that it is police model and provides dual protection with both pepper spray and tear gas. In addition, the spray contains UV Dye so perpetrators can easily be identified. This device affords one protection without having to use a lethal device. I cannot endorse this product more strongly; it’s simple and easy to use, gives up to twenty bursts with an approximate 12 foot range, and the effectiveness lasts until the expiration date which is three years from date of issue, which is printed on the device. I will never be without these.
