There are slight variations in the size of the bags. One bag fit tight around my stand and the other had a little extra space so a little easier to zip. I do wish it had an outside pocket on it for extra supply storage (stand clips, etc.). I like that it is a padded case to cushion sharp edges of the stand. Fits my trombone stand in it as well.

Even when fully retracted, the stand base requires some careful arranging to get it in and get the bag zipped shut. Very tight tolerances. Bag is fine otherwise – but an extra 1/4 to 1/2 inch of width would make a world of difference in the ease of getting things packed up at the end of a session.

Updated review as of 2013/06/10: I ordered another bag, since a friend of mine recently bought one and told me it had been upgraded. The new version has fixed the two flaws in the original. The bag is now about an inch and a half longer, so that the folded up legs fit inside with no stretching. The strap is now the right size, and is long enough to be useful. The bag now fits the stand very well, and can be carried over the shoulder with ease. It’s nice when a manufacturer reads comments and fixes a product so that it meets expectations. I upgraded my rating from two to five stars as a result.

Original review: The bag itself is fine. If it were only an inch longer, the folded-up legs would then fit without having to stretch the bag. One of these days the zipper’s going to break as a result. The strap is a joke. At its most extended length it barely stretches across the top of the bag. The picture is very deceptive. Still . . . it protects the stand during transport, but the quality of the bag doesn’t match the high quality of the stand.

The Manhasset 5201 Voyager stand is fantastic for its stability, but that stability comes at the price of reduced portability. The shaft collapses down to no smaller than 28″, and the desk doesn’t collapse at all. Fortunately, the Voyager tote bag makes it practical to carry around such a bulky stand.

The bag is a trapezoid about 15″ high, about 31″ along its base, and about 25″ along its top edge. It’s about 4″ thick when fully loaded. [EDIT: The designed thickness – that is, where the stitches are – is actually 2″, but that doesn’t restrict you from putting thicker items in the bag.] The desk of the stand fits against one wall of the bag (music surface toward the inside of the bag), while the shaft fits into a cloth tube that runs along the bottom of the bag. The zipper runs along the full length of one diagonal side, across the top, and a few inches down the opposite diagonal side. You unzip the bag all the way to get access to the storage tube for the shaft.

The stand doesn’t take up much overall volume in the bag, leaving plenty of room for accessories. Since the stand’s desk doesn’t collapse, it makes a pretty good “case” for a folio of music inside the bag, protecting the folio from being crumpled, particularly when it’s held in place against the desk by your other accessories. If you happen to play a small instrument such as a flute, you can keep that in the bag as well. In my bag I carry the stand, a music folio, a concert flute, a compact flute stand, a bass flute peg and base board about the size of an iPad, and cleaning cloths, with lots of room to spare. Since switching to the Voyager from a compact music stand, I’m actually carrying fewer things, now that everything but my bass flute fits into the bag. I’m pretty sure a clarinet case would fit into the bag as well.

While the strap is adjustable and opens large enough to fit it over your opposite shoulder, I tend to carry it purse-style to avoid having to slip the strap over my head when my hands are already full with other things. One thing I wish the bag had was a pair of carrying handles, so that I don’t have to fuss with a strap at all. As I don’t use the straps on my instrument cases, it would be easier for me to carry handles of the tote and instrument case in one hand.

The bag has a liner, proving light padding, but not enough to prevent the spine of the stand desk poking through the wall of the bag at you. Given that all my accessories produce a lumpy opposite wall to the desk, I usually keep the desk side towards me and just deal with the desk spine, positioning it either in front of or behind my hips.

Those minor inconveniences aside, if you insist on a nice, sturdy music stand like the Voyager for travel, then this tote bag is money well spent.

The old bag was not long enough. I had rips at both ends from the leg part of the Voyager stand. This one is much roomier and easy to zip. I suggest getting a rubber 5/8″ furniture leg tip to put on the inner shaft to prevent the sharp end from wearing through the fabric.

I purchased this for a gift for my sister who first got the Manhasset 52C Voyager Concertino Short Shaft Music Stand which is a great purchase. This Totebag cost me $21.50 plus $2 shipping. Worth the price for a quality product. She says she loves both the bag and the stand. The bag she said would also hold music folders it is so big with extra room. She is quite pleased with her gifts which were on her “wish list” so it made it easy for Christmas shopping. She said her husband already had both products so she knew what to expect and that her old collapsible wire style metal stand was just way too flimsy. This is the way to go in 2 professional musician’s eyes to get both products! No need for extra photos, the advertisement is true to what you get. The bag seems quite big to me and dourable when I saw it! Well made, good material, stitching and handles!

I bought the stand for a long time, but did not buy the bag, strange !
We need a bag for out of town play concert, I got one easy carry stand and bag from Sharmusic.com, but the one they sent to me did not work, it is very cheap stand, even the screw did not fit. I had to return it, then thought about getting a bag for the stand.

I believe that I have the best decision. I love it, it fit perfectly.

When I originally purchased my music stand it came with this same cover. I have traveled with, sent through the mail, and utilized the cover for years while utilizing the music stand. So much so, I had worn the original cover and purchased this one to replace it because I had simply wore it out. It holds the stand and a thick music book, is very durable and perfect to organize and transport to gigs and rehearsals.

This a larger bag than the one which was part of the original set. So I expect this will lessen stress on the corners where the original bag’s fabric failed. I hope the stand will be prevented from sliding out (and onto the ground) through holes at the corners caused by the fabric failure during transport. Good move, Manhasset!

This new bag seems to be made with a heavier material than my first. I read reviews and took advice of purchasing a chair tip for the end of the music stand so it won’t puncture a hole in the end of the bag.
