Quick delivery. Easy to assemble. I’m a 72-year-old woman and I did it myself, with a little supervision from my husband. Based on the reasonable price I was surprised at how well made it is, even the screws were nice and there were extras. The wheels are also nicely made and screw in. You can move it around easily, but be aware that the cage just sits on the stand and is not fastened, so you can’t push it around by the cage part or it will topple over. I am using this for a baby squirrel I am rehabbing. The cage is very sturdy. The bars are close enough that “Wally” has no chance of getting out. The door latches securely. I didn’t want him to have to walk on the wire flooring, so I reversed the wire bottom and the pan, and that works out nicely. I can cover the bottom and the two upper wire shelves with newspaper and he can navigate it easily and it is easy to clean. He can also climb up the wire ladders, although I placed a number of tree limbs in the cage and he prefers them. He loves his cage. He comes out for a feeding and a cuddle and then reaches towards his cage, wanting back in. He has an enclosed “cubby” to get in if a sudden noise or movement frightens him, but otherwise he races all around this lovely habitat.

We purchased this cage in black for our wonderful pet Sun Conure with a crippled foot… hence the desire for the levels with ramps… so he could “get around” better. The cage shipping weight was 20 lbs according to the FEDEX shipment data… vice the 60 lbs advertised on Amazon. Shipping was super-fast (although not “Prime”) and arrived here in Phoenix in just two days – much faster than the 5-7 days ‘published’ by the Amazon order page. And, no, it is NOT wrought iron. It is made of box tubular steel and heavy wire. And, yes, it was made in China and shows the typical Chinese lack of quality control. Hence, the four stars instead of five. However, the manufacturing flaws were minor in my case. The epoxy paint finish was good and there was no visually obvious flaws worth mentioning. And, it came with two add-on platforms and two “ladders” for the platforms as well as four clear plastic feed cups and four wooden dowel perches, one of which is badly warped and so crooked it is not usable. Not sure how they get “four levels”… but maybe their math skills are better than mine. ;<)
Now, that being said, I feel it is a very good value for the price, and it is good enough for most folks’ needs. And, a 60 pound wrought iron cage would be very heavy and difficult to manage for most folks, The cage is not light (but it is not too heavy to manage either, ladies) and once on the stand, rolls around easily on the adequately good wheels, It seems to be a good balance between weight and strength and not ‘flimsy’ at all. No issues here with the weight, in my opinion. For birds, this cage is fine. However, I cannot speak for small animals,,, I will let others address that aspect.
Assembly was easy… although the instructions are a bit weak… but anyone with some mechanical ‘savvy’ should have no problems. All that’s required for assembly is an allen hex wrench, which is included in the package. There were a few extra screws also. No other tools are needed. I recommend starting all screws gently, by hand, to be sure you get the threads aligned correctly BEFORE using the allen wrench to tighten them. Be patient and careful. CAUTION: Be sure to use the long screws for the stand ONLY as stated in the instructions. Separate the long screws from the short ones before starting your assembly to avoid accidents. Using one of the longer screws on the cage itself instead of the short screws will damage the cage. Also, I recommend you leave all screws just ‘lightly snugged’ and not fully tight until all screws are installed, then go around and tighten them all. Do not over-tighten… just tighten them up so the cage is not “loose” and flimsy.. The screws should thread into the mating pieces easily… if they don’t you are doing something wrong and might be cross-threadng the screw (a bad thing!). Check your screw-to-hole alignment carefully. The cage does not sit very soundly on the stand, as mentioned by others, so I used some good quality black cable ties from the electrical department of my local Lowes to strap it down to the stand and all is well. This ‘fix’ is removable, is not very ‘visible’ and does not ruin the appearance at all. The bottom tray and grid are both easily removable for cleaning without removing the cage from the stand, so no issues there.
So, bottom line is, if you want very high quality, pay the higher price and shipping and look elsewhere. If you want good value, this is an excellent product for the price, in my opinion (I am an engineer by trade, by the way). While I was initially concerned about the weight difference (20 lbs vs the published 60 lbs) the cage is definitely strong enough for my purposes, and at this price, I feel very satisfied with the value. And, our Conure now has all the room in the world for his toys…! :<) Another great Amazon buy!
Good luck!

TL;DR, I personally like this cage better than the Midwest Critter Deluxe! Not as sturdy, less heavy, takes up far less space while being an appropriate size, prefer the door and latch.
Okay, so I’m weird about rodent cages. I’ve variously owned hamsters and rats, and right now I have two young rat girls. I ordered the Midwest Critter Deluxe, which I think is a great size and option for adult rats, but I live in an apartment. You can see in the photo that a cage any larger than this one would be far too large. The Midwest looked ridiculous and was too big for my petite girls. People like the full size doors on the Midwest, but personally I like the door on this cage a lot better.
The latch is not as shown as others have said, I like this one better and I like it better than the Midwest. The cage has great air flow and the sizing is small enough to contain small rats. The extra openings for birds are totally manageable and easy to secure. The vertical space is great for rats. The platforms are adjustable. It’s all around a great cage.
Cons: takes a long time to put together, about 2.5 hours. My instructions were wrong and i spent a lot of time with the Allen wrench. It doesn’t seem like it would be sturdy on its stand, but I’ve had no problem. The bars are on the thinner side, but as long as you’re not banging it around it’s not a big deal. THE WIRE ON THE BOTTOM AND PLATFORMS AND LADDERS ARE NOT APPROPRIATE FOR RATS. I used a shelf liner that I cut to size and Velcro attached to the platforms and ladder, and I put the pan on the inside of the cage.
Other pros: lots of storage. Easy to accommodate to rats. Great door. Lightweight compared to the Midwest. Great size for 2 rats, MAYBE 4 smaller adult females. Attractive, easy to clean.
I’m really picky about cages. It’s SO HARD to find large cages that have tight wire spacing, which is critical to prevent escape, especially for hamsters or rats. I highly recommend this cage as a quality and affordable option for your critters, and I personally prefer it to the Midwest for home use. If i had the space, sure, I’d have kept the Midwest because the size could accommodate 4-6 rats easily. But I prefer the features on this cage 🙂

It’s a good size but the bars are not very sturdy. I have a sugar glider in it temporarily while she heals and she can’t fit through the spacing which was my biggest worry from some of the reviews. Quite a few reviews said the holes didn’t line up but with a bit of adjusting and muscle it went together just fine. I did have to zip tie all the little doors so she couldn’t get out of those just for her own safety. I’m happy enough with it!
