Our 2 month old baby had horrible colic for the first 6 weeks for her life, especially during weeks 3-4. She would cry incessantly for hours. When we spoke to the doctors, they informed us that this was most likely “colic” a phenomenon for which they really do not have an explanation, that many children go through and for which we do not have any cure or treatment.
We did our research through medical journals and mommy blogs alike and came across a recommendation for gripe water. Mommy’s Bliss is a well known and trusted company, so we tried this. Thus far it has done an incredible job. While the instructions allow several administrations per day, we give her 1ml (through the provided syringe) first thing in the morning, then once in the afternoon and once at bedtime. It has not only helped her to remain calm, but it also has reduced her spit up. I am not sure what it tastes like – I haven’t tried it, but she seems to like it.
It is important to mention here at gripe water is NOT FDA approved. What does that mean? That means that gripe water, in any form, sold by any company, does not go through the rigorous testing for ingredients or efficacy that the FDA requires. And so, every bottle may be different and have varying safety profiles. There is certainly some risk, however, with our baby crying hours as a time, we had to try something and we were very happy that this worked.

Amazing! I had this in my drawer and forgot about it. Maybe I was a little skeptical. Baby is 7 weeks old and just gave half dose, will give full dose next time, after I swaddled, rocked her and played soft music, she knocked out. Normally I let her have her moment, which can go on for hours! This really works. About to catch up on some sleep… Reason I gave 4 stars-I released the water in her mouth too fast, she coughed a lot. Will get a better dropper tomorrow.

our newborn was quite gassy during her first few weeks. our doctor and a friend recommended it and it works great for our baby. from what i can see, it seems to ease the discomfort (as advertised) and she eventually stops crying. we’ve used it every single time she’s felt discomfort and works every time.
it has a very sweet flavor to it so our baby likes the taste so it’s not a problem giving it to her unless she’s already in a crying fit in which case she would be very restless.
i’ve read some reviews here saying they or their babies got better but i don’t believe it’s a cure it just relieves the baby somehow.

My husband has upper GI problems to the point where he can’t sleep laying down. We keep our bed quite elevated and still, sometimes his food comes up and causes him severe pain and distress. Recently, he woke up with a bad episode and he had tried all the usual…. Tums, drinking that “white stuff” for indigestion and more. I had just gotten this container in the mail the day before and hadn’t mentioned it to him, even though I bought it specifically for him (after seeing my 2-week old nephew having colic pains and having immediate relief with a dose of this). Where was this product when my kids were little??
My husband took one dose and within 30 seconds, he had some relief and quickly turned into total relief. These episodes usually last for 20 minutes or so and this worked very quickly.

Our son was not a great sleeper during his first year. He would regularly cry uncontrollably in the middle of the night. The gripe water was easy to drink for him and it would calm him down about half of the time we gave it to him…which was still good enough for us. Any help is much appreciated when you’re sleep-deprived parents of an inconsolable crying baby at 4am. For all of you parents of colicky, crying, babies… this product might help. And if it doesn’t… just know that people always say, “it gets better” for a reason. It certainly got better for us.
Update: We’re on our second child now and “oh joy…another child that isn’t great at sleeping!” Maybe it’s us, maybe it isn’t. Regardless, we’re back to using gripe water. We keep it nearby for when he wakes up in the middle of the night. For the most part, we think it’s helping. And even if it’s just a few more minutes of much-deprived sleep, it’s worth it.

First you have to realize that infants are all different. Some things work great for one child and makes it worse for others. Mommy’s Bliss Gripe water works well for my infant and even better for me. haha I had some issues the other day and I looked at the dosage and noticed an “adult” dosage so I tried it and it worked great. With the baby it’s hit or miss. Sometimes it works wonders and baby feels great, but not always. I think it’s because we are dealing with reflux, so it’s not always gas. Anything was better than the Babies R Us brand gas relief (I forget the main active ingredient), that seemed to act as a pain multiplier.
I’d recommend this product to my family and friends that are having babies with the caveat that it might not work for their individual child — but keep it in the medicine cabinet to try again later or for yourself.

My pediatrician recommended gripe water to us after Mylicon wasn’t doing anything for my daughter’s gas. She said Mylicon doesn’t work, period, not for the kind of gas babies have. We have practically used this since my daughter was born, and she is 7 months old now. This didn’t come with a dropper before so it was difficult to measure it out and give to a baby, but it comes with a dropper now, which makes this a 5 star product. My daughter gulps it down, she gets excited when she sees the bottle. She has never made a face about the taste being bad, which is a huge plus because a lot of medicines taste awful for babies. I think this helps her immensely, she would calm down after being upset and gassy only a few minutes after taking this. At one point we were giving it to her before bed every night and it was helping her sleep for a longer stretch, and I would give it to her in the middle of the night sometimes, too. The bottle does say to discard it a month after opening, which is a good thing to know before buying it in case you don’t think you will use it all. My friend uses this for her 7 week old and it helps his gas, too.
