**UPDATE**
I got this play yard when my son was 6 months old. Now he is 10 months old and he has used it to practice his mobility and walking. It is SO STURDY I love it. He can pull himself up on the bars on the side and does little baby lunges, bounces, and dances, while hanging on for balance. He holds on and side steps around the play yard, which has been so good for his strength and mobility! It NEVER wobbles or moves and he is a strong little dude. Friends that come over always comment that it is so nice looking, and doesn’t look like a “baby gate”. They always say, “I am getting one of those when I have kids!” I can’t say how much I love this product. I’m going to get a second one for my basement as soon as I save up for it.
**ORIGINAL**
I absolutely love our play yard!! We got this and also one extension in taupe(white). It was very easy to assemble and works great for our VERY mobile 8 month old. He can pull himself up on the bars, and they are sturdy enough that they don’t wobble or budge while he stands holding them. He can bounce and pull on them and they do not move. The vertical bars are SO NICE because there is nothing for him to put his feet into and climb! The swinging gate door is awesome. Very nice design. It is nice that this play yard can be set up in a variety of shapes – we have tried it in an octagon, a rectangle, and a square. I can leave my son in here to play while I go take a shower and get ready for the day, prepare meals, or clean up the house. ALL of his toys fit in there with him so he has plenty to keep him occupied and I can rest assured that he is safe inside. It is nice that I don’t have to completely baby proof my entire house because he has his own area that he can be in unattended. Plus it is not a big eye sore… probably the most attractive playpen I’ve seen. It is WORTH the extra cost to get this nice, quality play yard.

This product warrants its stellar rating. Thank goodness I did not purchase the plastic “Superyard” version! This gate has fulfilled all of my requirements: Not hideous, extremely strong/stable, spacious, not climbable, and tall. It has been a dream come true from the moment we set it up. In fact, we purchased two of them and constructed a 8’x4′ baby jail. It’s huge! My 8-month old twins have plenty of room to crawl around and play, and it still feels very spacious even when I’m in there with them. I love that it can be set up in a rectangular shape — it makes more more sense in my living room and doesn’t look as garish, IMO — and it’s totally stable. There is no way my babies will be able to knock it over, even when they both are old enough to pull themselves up and push against it. Another all-star feature is the swinging gate — Wow, is this nice! The push-and-lift mechanism works perfectly, and you can either let the gate swing closed behind you (it’s tension loaded) or you can open it all the way and it will stay open. You can operate it with one hand (great for when you are carrying a baby). My husband easily connected the two gates, so ours has an entrance/exit gate at each end. Connecting the two gates was easy. Regarding the color — this was important to me so it’s annoying that it’s not represented consistently across the web, but anyway — it is a mix of light gray and tan. Not totally light gray, but not tan either. I’d say it’s more of a light “putty” color. It’s not a gross beige, like something in a hospital, it’s nicer than that. I do wish it was 100% gray, but it’s totally fine and not ugly in person. It is definitely NOT white, however, so be warned of those who have said that. I was pretty hung up on the color, but I’m totally happy with the way it looks. Don’t be deterred by it. Another helpful tip, is that we found that you can use 3 yoga mats to cover your hardwood floor (using the 8’x4′ configuration) — 2 cover most of the area, and then you just cut the 3rd mat to fit the remaining space. This is way more attractive, IMO than those ABC multicolored rubber thingies that you can buy. More practical for cleaning the floor as well. Easy to roll up and replace when needed (I do place quilts on them for extra comfort). Bottom line, I am thrilled to have my twins safely confined, and very happy that I didn’t put off purchasing these!!

I got two of these (yeah pretty expensive I know) to create a huge play yard for my son who is just about to turn 7 months. I had been looking into the plastic north states superyard because they’re cheaper and we could get more panels for the price. I read some of the lower rated reviews on them and I wasn’t pleased. Read all these reviews and I felt this fit our needs and now it was just a matter of spending so much on it.
Absolutely worth the price!! These are pretty heavy so I’m sure that by the time he’s walking around he won’t be able to move these because of their weight. If that’s not enough they tighten the poles where it bends so that they’re put in that position permanently, or until you un-tighten them.
I really like that they’re straight up and down slats instead of a criss cross shape because that also means he won’t be able to climb out. It’s pretty tall either way but makes it even better. The slats are also pretty close together. I can’t imagine any of his toys rolling away from him and out of it. I also really like that they’re close because I have a feeling my cat won’t be able to get into it. He’s been liking to go and scratch up the foam mats so I wasn’t expecting that but really like it.
The open close locking mechanism is pretty easy, totally doable while holding a baby. The swinging gate itself isn’t very big. I didn’t measure it out but another reviewer said about 14″. It’s not a big deal if it’s just going to be a play yard. I can see it becoming an issue if you choose to close up rooms and for example have to go through it with laundry or a vacuum so that’s something to think about.
This one also gets screwed into the wall which I thought would add to the strength of the gate. Making it even harder for my little turd(sweet darling baby) to move it.
It was really easy to set up. My husband set both of them up in about 20 minutes maybe less. We have not yet screwed them into the wall so I can’t yet review that part of the gate.
Overall this gate is awesome and totally worth the price.
I’ll add some pictures to this review later as the tiny human is ready for bed and wouldn’t let me take any now anyway.
