Obert Black Hunter 60″ Takedown Recurve Bow

 I’m a first time Archer this is my first bow, first I like the look of it when I got it it is really high quality product finishes are amazing really and eye-catching bow, regarding precision and functionality you can see my videos as I never shot a bow before in my life this is my first day using a bow at about 10 yards! So far this boat is amazing super precise high quality will definitely recommend to first time buyers and as I learned on YouTube also professional archers use this bow!

It’s I great looking bow. Nothing to complain about. The picture is a bit different from the actual product due to the lighting but the seller sent out 5 carbon arrows for the confusion.

Bought this bow because I hear so many good things about it. I shoot a bear grizzly and wanted a cheap bow to leave at my camp. Easy to assemble. I bought a new string and silencers because the string that comes with it is not great. All in I have $120 in this bow and after warming up I was grouping better than I do with my bear. I can’t say enough about this bow what a surprise! And it looks nice too!

Initially, I got this with the 60 lb limbs. this proved too much for me (for now lol) so I ordered and switched to the 45 lb limbs. for context, I am 6′ 3″ and 200 lb, and I comfortably shoot a 30″ draw. I recently did some small draw weight tests on the “45 lb limbs” (see picture) and found its about a 55 lb draw weight for me at my normal draw (i was getting about 76-78 lb on the 60lb limb at 30 in). The 45 lb limbs ended up being 45 lb draw weight at around 25.5in.

I am definitely thinking of moving up to the “50lb limbs” and possibly the 55s. All i can say is I love this bow and is has been holding up well since March of 2021 (shooting about once a week). I would definitely recommend this bow for anyone interested in more traditional archery but would caution to go lighter than you maybe expect to at first as this bow goes up in weight faster per draw length in comparison to other bows I have (for instance I have a Ringing Rocks Archery longbow that does 58lb at 30 in but does 55lb at 28in. Their bows are fantastic too check them out!). The arrow rest is nicely positioned and, at least for me, helped me become much more accurate. All in all this bow feels like old-school archery done the modern way while the longbow i have feels old school done old-school. hope this helps someone.

This is my first bow. After a great deal of research, I decided on a Black Hunter. The Obert brand has a lot of decent reviews and a better price than Mandarin Duck and the other well known brands. The two usual suspects when it comes to starter bows are the Black Hunter and the Samick Sage. I have a draw length of 30″, and had heard that the Sage could start stacking (getting exponentially heavy) at 29″ or so while the Black Hunter will not. Also, the Sage is around a hundred bucks more. The riser and limbs look good, with no visible defects. The Black Hunter logo is on the riser, but it kind of looks like a sticker, and I didn’t like it so I chipped it off with my fingernail. I’m still not sure if it was paint or a decal of some kind. The riser pockets where the limbs assemble are lined with felt. The limbs are shaped differently where they assemble to the riser so you can easily tell them apart, although the bottom one also has the poundage written on it. The limbs assembled easily, and do not appear twisted. The string is ok, but the strands don’t want to stay together when you twist it. I’m hoping a bit of string wax will help with that. When I pull to my draw length of 30 inches, there doesn’t seem to be any stacking yet, or maybe just beginning to. It also comes with a 2″x2″ piece of adhesive hair for the shelf and rest. You have to cut them to the size/shapes you want and stick them on. Mine also came with a stringer. It’s the kind that clips onto both of the tips. It’s horrible, and the rope comes apart from the plastic/rubber tips constantly. I tried the other kind (one end clips on the lower tip, while the other end wraps around the upper limb) with much better results. I built a jig to check the bow weight. At 28 inches, it pulls 39 lbs (close enough to the 40 lbs I expected, plus there is certainly a bit of variability in my test jig). At my draw length of 30 inches, it pulls 44 lbs. Overall, for a price south of a hundred dollars, it seems to be a good entry level bow. Just a note for you other first timers– archery it seems is a bit of a rabbit hole. You will need several accessories to get started the right way, so do your homework and be sure you want to go through all the hassle. Youtube is your friend.

Edit: I added a flemish twist string made from B55 Dacron material, and love it. I was able to install some fur silencers (can’t easily do that with the stock string), and it’s two-toned which looks really nice. Recommend a similar string if you want silencers, for adding a clicker, and just looking cool.
