I have an Optima that is 21 YEARS old & still starts my 4cyl pkup!! It has been in constant use & NEVER run down. Is that a record?? I’m not sure they are still made to this standard. Even with an Optima charger I’ve had little luck revieving a dead Optima. With almost NO corrosion or maintence, I feel they are worth the extra cost for a vehicle in regular use. They DON’T like being charged like a regular battery but can be jumped to get going again, don’t trust they will accept enough of a charge to start you again once you shut off. Trickle chging has worked best for me.

Reliable power to start your diesel truck is crucial. Especially when you have two batteries paralleled, they both have to be on the same page. I had tried 3 separate times with flooded Interstate batteries from Costco, but they just couldn’t handle the demand of a diesel truck. I finally bit the bullet on these AGM Redtop Optima’s and I couldn’t be happier. They start my truck fast every time and charge faster with the alternator so it doesn’t have to work as hard and lasts as long as possible. Highly recommend for a diesel truck application!

Simply crud-grade quality from optima –

Background: I was originally kind of an Optima fanboy. Have had one, well four, actually, in the GMC Sierra over the last six years (IIRC). Two of those have been warranty replacements. First battery (parts store purchase), the battery died around one year. Second battery, the first warranty replacement battery, the case started swelling up. Removed from fear of rupture. Third battery bought from Amazon, for some strange, unexplained reason, the pos terminal started weeping acid (I know, It’s an AGM battery – should be no loose acid to leak out, but there it was, leaking). Amazon replaced that one under warranty after initially saying it was not covered and then a short argument as to what the warranty coverage actually was. That one is two years old and it died a couple of weeks ago. I can charge it, but it only holds charge for a few days now before voltage falls off to below 12 V.

IMHO, quality in recent years is not in line with that originally established by Optima. Seems to be trading on an old, outdated reputation.

Note that this review covers the performance of this line over several years, not how it performs within a week of install.

I’ve put my final bit of worry (and money) into Optima batteries.

I bought this battery for my RV. Not a motor home but a trailer. For my energy consumption needs this is the best priced battery.

Let’s look at some basic specifications. Cold Cranking Amperes is a useless specification when the battery is to be used in an application where an engine or large electric motor is not used. For RV owners the most important specification is the Ampere Hour rating (AH). In short, the AH rating is the capacity of a battery to hold electricity. Just like a large glass holds more water than a small glass, batteries hold more or less electricity than one another, but in the case of batteries, they have different capacities even if they are physically the same size.

This battery is rated at 50 AHs. That means that if you had all the lights on at the same time in your RV and they consumed 5 amperes, this battery would keep them lit for 10 hours (50 amp hours divided by 5 amps equals 10 hours). If the electric load was 15 amperes then this battery could run this load for 3.33 hours, and so forth.

When purchasing a battery for your RV you can determine the better buy by dividing the cost of the battery by the AH rating. A $150.00 battery specified to offer 50 AHs equals 3AHs per dollar. A $130.00 battery rated at 10 AHs equals 13 amps per dollar, making it a far more expensive battery – UNLESS 10 AHs is all the capacity you need.

Replace the incandescent lights in your RV with LED lights and the energy needed to light your RV will be cut by 75%. Also remember intermittent electricity use like your water pump and overhead fans.

By no means was the Optima battery that I was replacing getting weak, or giving out. I merely replace my Optima batteries after about 8 years so that I don’t get stuck having to buy a new battery while I’m on the road or out of town.

This is my third Optima car battery. They have always been a solid choice, and perform beyond my wildest expectations. That being said, I do charge my battery occasionally (about every 2-3mos) to keep it topped off. I have never had a dead battery with an Optima. 🔋✨
