I had been purchasing the regular version of Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard for about a year now mainly because it’s ingredient list is simple and to the point of what I wanted (caffeine and creatine) – when I saw this Advanced version on the site and decided to give it a try.
Holy hand grenades this stuff is miles more effective (due to the additional caffeine and other ingredients) than the regular version. If you aren’t getting the same kick from the regular version, I’d highly suggest giving the Advanced version a try.
It kicks in fairly quickly, I’d say in about 15-20 minutes post consumption. A full scoop is 300 mg caffeine which instantly perks you up, but did not give me that jittery/tingly feeling. The full benefit of this pre-workout comes half-way through your workouts (I usually do 60-75 minute weight lifting focused workouts). Typically at about the 45 minute mark, I’m absolutely gassed and have to struggle through the last 15-30 minutes, but not with this stuff… you can just keep going, seriously.
I definitely also am seeing the “pump” more and able to crank out a last rep or two better than before so all in all, this stuff seems to keep my energy levels at a coasting high throughout the entirety of my workout, allows me to feel the “pump” more in my muscles, and gets me one more rep… which all equate to more gainz per sessions.
Damn fine product. I’m a relative noob when it comes to pre-workout supplements, but others have told me that the ingredient list in this Advance version of the product is the tride-and-true formulation of pre-workout powders that other (much more gimmicky and expensive) brands have been using for years.

One of the few pre-workouts that actually have appropriate levels of the necessary supplements. Even though I’m used to it, I still get a good enough energy boost for my early morning sessions. People bring up the tingling in the ears as a side effect, it’s completely normal, until you get used to the beta alanine. Taste is ok and it mixes well enough.

You see, I’ve been using Optimum Nutrition products for a few years and I recently began using the advanced pre-workout which has done wonders for me; I really believe a good pre-workout can help you during intense workouts. Well, for some reason (stupid me!) I decided to try Gorilla Mode. I paid the $55 (40 servings) and I’m regretting it after only 3 days of drinking this stuff! I’m not going to spend this review talking about what I didn’t like about that product, but I want to share what’s great about this one. First, the ingredients! Not only do I feel the pump during and after my workouts, I’m also very focused and hyped about pushing my limits. I also enjoy the Beta-alanine because once I feel the tingling, I know it’s working. Second, the tastes are great; my only complaint is you have to really shake to make sure there aren’t any clumps. But even the clumps taste like candy.

For the first time, I used a pre-workout supplement (Optimum Nutrition Gold Standard Pre Workout Advanced), and the difference was incredible. I was able to complete a full-body workout to failure without feeling dizzy. In the past, my workouts would last only 20 to 45 minutes before I ran out of energy and had to drink a can of Coke. But today, I was able to work out for almost two hours! The only reason I stopped was that I had other things to do. This is amazing.

While the flavor leaves something to be desired, I believe most of the flavor issue comes from the added sodium (which is actually beneficial during exercise).
The formula is simple and isn’t loaded with a ton of unnatural ingredients, good for those trying to avoid poorly-tested additives, however the caffeine dose is quite high for first time users so beginning with a quarter or half-scoop is recommended.
I’ve seen a few reviews complaining about tingling (VERY likely due to the 3.2g of Beta-Alanine) but that is to be expected from the product.
The pump and increase to endurance is tame in comparison to other pre-workouts but for the price, the increase in performance is quite good. Be aware this product contains a total of 6.2g of creatine (5g monohydrate and 1.2g nitrate), so consumption of additional water pre and post use is a NECESSITY. Some quick burning carbs before consumption will help prevent any bloating that may occur.
Overall, it’s a good option for those looking for a mid-level stimulant to increase the efficacy of their time spent in the gym.

I am lucky that the product is in date… But it only have 3 months left on it .. it so close to expiry that it might not be that effective plus I can’t wait until my current one finishes because this one expires before the one I am using right now… Have the decency to sell it at half the price or even less or don’t sell about to expire products at all…
