There is a little spill over, but with paper or cardboard underneath, not much of a problem.
The alignment of the unit to the chain is critical, but that will come with experience in using it.
The chain comes out pretty clean, almost as good as a soaking.

I read the other reviews and thought to myself, “yeah, I’m sure it does the job reasonably well, but how much better can it be than just doing it manually?” The answer is A LOT. This little device works wonders and does it quickly and cleanly. I wasn’t ever big on cleaning my bike chain because it is so dirty and messy, but this contraption makes it all a lot faster, easier and does a better job. I didn’t use their biodegradable solution (for $10) and instead used what degreasing agents I had on hand to use in the scrubber – in my case “That Purple Stuff” with a few drops of Dawn blue dishwashing liquid). Man, I cranked the chain through this solution in the scrubber a few times and the chain came out sparkling clean. It would be helpful to have a something to hold my bike upright while I backpedaled the chain through the chain scrubber, but I made due without (although my chain did come off a few times in the process). Wear disposable gloves if you have them, as your hands will get covered in grime as you do this, but overall a pretty easy process that I might do more than once every 10 years from here on out :-).

Before I bought this tool, I cleaned my bike chains using Dawn dish soap, water, and toothbrushes. I thought I was doing a good job cleaning my chains. Turns out, the chains were not getting as clean as they could be. This scrubber tool plus degreaser gets the chain very clean every time. That prolongs the life of the chain and the drivetrain. Great investment.

I am happy with this bike chain cleaner. It feels sturdy, was easy to use, and did a great job cleaning the chain. I couldn’t believe how much grime and metal shavings (caught by magnet) came off the chain after only 1 month of use. I used Simple Green HD Pro as the degreaser instead on the expensive bicycle specific stuff and it worked perfectly.

Very well made. The body, brushes, and clips all feel really solid. It has a sponge where the chain exits so it doesn’t make nearly as much mess as the other ones I’ve used. I like that you can put the solvent in with it closed. The chain did not beat up the plastic at the entrance and exit. I checked the chain afterward and it came out very clean. It seems to have gotten most of the grit out from between the links. The brushes do not fall out when you take it apart. I resisted buying this one for many years because it was so expensive. All the parts are replaceable. IDK if it’s “worth” the money, but it’s more than twice as good as the ones that cost half as much.

I have been using these chain cleaners for 20+ years. I have to buy them on occasion because I drop and break them, lose parts, or move and then can’t find ’em. Regardless, these chain cleaners do a fantastic job of getting off all the road grit and whatever sticks to the chain. I know I could probably get my chain cleaner if I took the chain off and soaked it…but…I’m just a guy who likes to ride his bike 20+ miles a day for exercise and fitness. It is my belief that the easier it is to make something happen, the more likely it will happen. In this case, putting my bike on the stand and using this tool to clean the chain is about as easy as it gets and the results are every bit as good as I need. Because it is easy, I do it much more frequently than I would if I had to unlink my chain, soak it, scrub it, reinstall it and relink it. Just not going to do that…and I like a clean chain which reduces the wear. That said, be prepared to spill a little degreaser (or whatever you clean your chain with) and make a bit of a mess…but it is contained in the area just below the run of the chain and you can just put down an old rag to catch the drips. When done, it cleans up nicely itself with just a bit of a rinse in the sink. In all, an excellent product that I will continue to use for years to come.

I used the Mucoff chain cleaners and it was uncomfortable to work with. I went to my bike shop and saw that they were using this one but the metal version. I decided to but this and OMG my chain is super clean and easy to use!
