Perky-Pet Pinch-Waist Glass Hummingbird Feeder 203CPBN-2

These are one of my favorite Hummingbird feeders. The stability of these is amazing, the red and yellow on these feeders attract lots of hummingbirds. I love the glass, it’s very study. I purchased several of these to replace my others that have broken from many yrs ago. These feeders work best for me, easy to assemble & clean, quality built product, the size is perfect, no leakage. And I love the appearance. They are not too light, but not too heavy. Very well made!

First a little background. All last year, I used a large 4-cup glass feeder, but unfortunately, I wasn’t seeing that many hummingbirds and much of the nectar was going to waste. So I elected to try some smaller feeders for this year.
I opted for 2 of these “Perky-Pet 203CPBN-2” glass feeders and another brand of plastic feeders in the spring to replace my large 4 cup feeder with 2 smaller ones. While i really like the look of this particular feeder, it’s cute, and the hummingbirds seemed to like it. Personally, I found it to be very difficult to clean adequately without taking it completely apart and running it through the dishwasher to ensure there was no black mold (which can kill the birds) forming in the hard to reach areas. I ultimately took these down and started using the plastic feeders that I bought. The design of the feeding ports on these Perky-Pet feeders allowed nectar to spill out in even a slight breeze. I was concerned the the plastic ones would leak due to their design, but as it turns out, they were a far superior design. So I cannot recommend these at all. They leaked and spilled sugar water on my deck in every breeze.

Pros:
* glass, sturdy, and have great overall build quality.
* they look great and the hummingbirds seem to like them.
Cons:
* unfortunately, they have some bad design flaws: Including far too many small parts that are difficult to remove and clean adequately and a poor design of the feeding ports. The nectar level sits so close to the edge of the port that even slight tipping from the breeze causes nectar to drip out.

While I really like the way they look, I really can’t recommend these due to the design flaws.

We have a lot of Anna’s and Allen’s hummingbirds. The photo is of a male Anna’s at the feeder. A half-dozen or so fight over it as much as sip from it. I had another feeder that got little action, but this one really attracts them. It is very easy to keep clean. I have to refill it every three to four days. We have it on the northeast side of the house where we can see it through our dining room window. It is busy from dawn to dusk.

Caps easily unscrew. My hummies love it. I will need to get more – there are more of them coming now.
HOW TO CLEAN THE FEEDER QUICKLY AND EASILY – to clean, I add about a tablespoon or two of white vinegar and swish it around the bottle and cap, then drain it through the openings where the birds feed. I then fill the bottle with water and empty it four times – same with cap where they feed. Lastly, I just rinse the whole thing with water and — done!
I have been cleaning the feeders this way for the last 30 years, and never had issues. :<)

I reviewed this product several years ago. My evaluation remains the same. Yes, it tends to leak — but with a bit of effort to securely seat all the flowers, this problem is minimized. They are also very easy to clean. I have had any of a number of feeders, and this one seems the best at attracting hummingbirds to my yard. I have 6-7 spread along my front and back decks, and get continuous hummingbird activity. I can’t say these feeders are the ‘best ever’ or any such endorsement. I can just say I haven’t found another feeder that attracts hummingbirds and keeps them all summer long.

The hummingbirds here choose these feeders over the others in our garden, including other pinch waist feeders. The differences are the trumpet flower and the unique bee guards. The color is the same as some of our others. Note the bottom that screws to the glass container is plastic and the perches are metal. From personal experience the plastic will crack with repeated exposure to extreme temp variants and the liquid will leak. I would suggest bringing them in when frost, snow, or ice is forecast. You can always put them back out when it warms up. The birds will still eat if they are around. The built-in moat is what it is – just add water halfway to the top and maintain it. Keep it clean so there’s nothing to climb over. With all that, I would definitely recommend trying these. They require the same TLC as any other feeder: clean, check for wear, refill.
