This is exactly what I needed. I have a solo rat who is too aggressive to be around my other boys, so naturally he is out of his cage majority of the time so he doesn’t get bored. He has a medium sized ferret cage in the bedroom but I needed a “downstairs cage” for him so he could have a food/water/potty area, while still being able to lock him up if I needed to leave the room without him. I wanted something small enough to be easy to clean and transport if needed since I already have to clean his big cage. This is super light, the base is easy to snap off, and the door isn’t too small, and it even has a handle so you can carry it around easily!! I even hooked one of the ramps onto the door so he can have easy access to the couch.
Obviously the little houses that come with it are too small for a rat, but they are still super cute.
The only reason this is getting 4 stars is because of the wheel. These types of wheels are dangerous for animals and they can easily break their legs on them. So the wheel has been trashed. Also I would not recommend this to anyone for any kind of animal’s full time cage. Its too small and I could see a tiny animal get hurt. Plus you can get way better, bigger and safer cages for the price. I got this on sale for $17 and wouldn’t pay a penny more than that for it.
Other than that, I am astounded at the quality of this cage.

I purchased this cage for my baby mouse to grow into. The mouse is only a few weeks old, but he still can not fit through the bar spacing. The cage itself is sturdy and heavy enough I don’t have to worry about our cats knocking it over or breaking into it. My favorite thing about this cage is that it’s not all pukey neon colors. I am a grown adult, and sometimes grown adults keep pet mice. Still, I guess it’s nice there’s a neon green option.
I can’t really speak for the quality of the platforms or accessories, as I never had any intention of using them when purchased the cage. What I can say is that wire flooring is not ideal for rodents – their feet are not much different than ours, and imagine walking on wire all day. Fortunately the wire floors are completely optional and do not add anything to the structural integrity of the cage, and I think even without them it’s well worth the price. I opted to get some wooden platforms, woven nest balls and a better quality running wheel instead.
The running wheel that comes with the cage has gaps which are much too wide for a baby mouse to run on, anyway. I’ve used wheels like this one in the past and in my experience, they make better chew toys than anything.
The bars are vertical so you may need to consider this when shopping for water bottles and other items to mount on the cage walls. I still prefer the vertical bars because rodents appear less tempted to chew them, or climb them and then propel themselves off the walls..
Overall I am very satisfied with this cage, and my little mouse has loved exploring it so far and utilizing all the extra scurry space. I can see it standing up to many generations of little mice.

looked very long on amazon for a nice cage for my two mice and decided on this one. its just so great for them, the space is nice for two mice, the bar spacing is good and the cage came fully intact. i did, however, make a couple adjustments that i saw recommended in other reviews (taking out the bottom bars so its just the plastic as the floor, zip-tying the top of the cage to the sides as there was kind of a gap there, and keeping the two upper level pieces away from the sides so my mice dont suffocate between them. i also just didnt use the little houses that came with the cage because i saw some reviews that said their pets got a little pinched in those houses). after making all of the changes the cage is simple and so great and i love the little ladders. it also makes it easy to clean and convenient. i love this cage and my mice love the space compared to their old one. highly recommend as long as you make the changes needed to make it completely safe for your pet

You MUST remove the second floor. My sister and I both bought this cage for our hamsters. We had the large syrian hamsters. The first problem is that the girls used the houses as toilets. We had to remove and clean the houses constantly. The second problem is that my hamster learned to slide open the door. There is no way of fastening it. I had to use a pice of metal wire to wrap around it tight – a crochet marker didn’t last long. Food full, water full, he just wanted to wander. Third, the wheels are flimsy plastic, and I found it schredded in the morning. I purchased one of the metal ones that can stand or hook over and sort of float. He liked that, but one platform and house had to go. Five – I had a hard time thinking a large hamster would have this happen, but my sister’s girl, Snowball, got in her head tonclimb between the outside wall and the platform; she was dead in the morning when my sister went to say good morning to her. She won’t put the cage out for the trash because she is afraid a lerson who can’t afford a cage will take it, and their kid’s hamster will strangle to death. She had a hard enough time with the image, so there was no way a kid would suffer that. It is a poor design. I wired my second floor using beeding wire and sewed the second floor to the wall so Panda doesn’t strangle. My sister won’t get another hamster.
This cage needs a ton of modificatiins, and so is only worth about $10 for what it will cost youbto make it safe. Save your money and get a 10 gallon tank, aspen shavings, a wheel, some toys, a metal top for lizzards and such and a hanging watter bottle. It will last forever and your hamster will be save and happy. If modified, this is a nice big home for a hamster, however, it is over-priced. All of the above is true.

This is terrible. First of shipped with absolutely no cushion the items were thrown inside the cage and could hear everything bang around when I picked it up. opened and everything fell out witch I put a picture of. Cage is flimsy pieces kept hooking together as I was taking out of box. Houses were flimsy this is not recommended. Hopefully for you . You read the reviewed before you but I did not and I regret it. Found out after purchasing that a woman’s hamster had died bc of a faulty design in this cage
