I’ve been riding bikes for over 40 years. It’s definitely, my passion. Although I prefer road bikes, I also ride cruisers and mountain bikes. And one of the first accessories I add to any bike is a lightweight water bottle cage and since I have a home in Florida an insulated water bottle.
This is my first Rock Brothers water bottle although I have had a few of their other products. From my past experiences they make good quality gear that’s strong, looks good and works as expected.
At first glance the water bottle looks like other insulated bottles I’ve used. It looks well finished with sharp graphics, a nice fitting top and a smooth outside finish.
Looking at the cap, Rock Brothers uses clear silicone parts for the drinking spout and the O-ring used to seal the cap. The spout is similar to others I’ve seen where you squeeze the bottle to create pressure that forces open a simple flap valve. Once the valve is open water can squirt out. What is a little different with this spout is that you can push the entire silicone spout up and down to Open and Close the pathway to the flap valve. When the spout is pushed down squeezing the bottle does nothing – no air is release and no water is released – the bottle is closed off. Other bottles on the market also feature a shut off but it requires two hands to work. This is simpler and easier to use.
Moving to the bottle the insulation which looks like a wrinkled liner is clearly visible through the clear outer shell of the bottle. Reaching down inside the bottle with your fingers you can squeeze the outer and inner layers together and get a sense of the insulation thickness. I would say the thickness is similar too other brands.
To test the bottle, I filled it to the top with Ice and then added plain water to the bottle from my refrigerator. The water was measured at 61 degrees F before I added it to the ice filled bottle. All temps were measured in degrees F. This is a similar process I do every day when I get ready for my ride.
Note on the website they tested the bottle with an ice cube with no water inside the bottle. This is a different test than the one I ran.
After filling the bottle with the water, I measured the temperature of the water+ice in the bottle at 35 degrees. I put this bottle outside in my covered screen room whose thermometer measured 75 degrees. The bottle was kept out of the sun.
Over the next 5 hours the temperature of the water increased from 35 degrees to 61degrees. The temperature in the room stayed fairly consistent between 75 and 78 degrees. All the ice had melted in the water in around 3 ½ hours. And the temps started to climb shorty after that point.
My daily rides are normally between 1 to 2 hours so this bottle seems like it would be helpful in keeping my water cooler during that time. But keep in mind that my test was run in the mid-70’s. In Florida where I do a lot of riding the temps can be in the mid-80’s starting in May. Keeping water cool in a relatively thin walled plastic bottle is a tough application.
The water bottle meets the descriptions and images on the website. I did not confirm their testing as this is not how I would use the bottle. This is a well made bottle, constructed from quality materials. It features an excellent spout system which helps keep any airborne contaminants out of my water. It fits my existing water bottle cage very well. And the price is very reasonable. I would recommend this bottle and feel it is as good and possibly better than any other insulated bottle I’ve used.

My son needed more water bottles for mountain biking. These fit great in his bottle cage and looked good too. Easy to use. Great price. He’ll use them a lot this year with all his practices and competitions.

These are like the Gen 1 camelback bottles. Keep water cold in Texas summer heat for 1 hour max and that’s with freezing them 1/3 full. Good for the price and they come with dust covers for off road.
