The Roland PM 100 Drum Monitor sounds great! It does provide realistic sounds, from the hi hats and grashes, to the bass drum and snare. It is easy to set up and requires a small footprint, I bought it knowing that it wasn’t going to provide the same volume and punch as the PM 200, and that it wouldn’t have a direct out like the PM 200. In retrospect I wish I would have gotten the PM 200 for those two considerations! Otherwise she’s good to go!!

I don’t know a whole lot about amps, but this is sufficient for home practice. I only use it if someone wants to hear me play. so far that hasn’t happened yet 😅 I put it under the right hand side of the drum kit, so I could hear how it sounds along with music and me, playing at the same time. it works pretty good for me. I’ve never even heard of vdrums, so it’s a totally new experience for me. I haven’t played drums in a couple decades. so im just taking my time, and listening to myself. the amp actually allows me to hear more bass drum, I can hear the beat better. I have a couple songs I thought I played perfect back in the day but I found out I was missing a beat, or adding a beat. so the bass does sound clear. I’m really not sure how to tune these drums so I can’t really comment on the sound of the cymbals or toms. 🤔 il

I imagine I could have done better for the price, however, I wanted it to match my Roland drum set. It is very good quality, my only grievance is that it is overpriced for what it is, and does not push much volume. Good for practice, not for gigs.

30 years ago Roland was a sign of quality. It still is today. I bought this amp for an Alesis Command electronic drum kit. I didn’t want to spend too much, so initially I was looking at the cheaper variants. I’m glad I spent the extra couple hundred dollars. The amp has 2 stereo ports (large), and a headphone aux port, which is one function I was looking for, because another can plug in and/or you can play songs through the amp (great for play along). Some folks say the sound isn’t high quality. Well, obviously if you are looking for genius sound, then you are going to have to pay for it. I think the volume and sound quality are pretty darn good. Rich, thumping bass, and nice high end frequencies for the cymbals. I liked the way my kit sounded so much, it motivated me to buy an expansion tom and cymbal for the kit. I’m not sure what the longevity will be, but I’m hoping this amp will last for many years.

Now I’m wondering why I took so long. Mind you this is for home use & now can serenade my wife and cats as i bang to our favorite hits.

I have a Roland TD-07KV drum set and wanted a monitor to play it without headphones occasionally. I read a lot of reviews on drum monitors and debated between this and a few PAs. I didn’t purchase any other options to compare, but I’m happy with this, except for the bottom end (more in this in a moment).
The PM-100 sounds great, and I’ve already used it as a PA for a few parties. Piping music through it and EQ’ing with the bass & treble controls produces some fantastic sound. However, playing with the V-drums, the EQ settings need to be flat. The TD-07 sounds great through the monitor and the drums are accurate with flat EQ settings. It quickly becomes harsh and unbalanced if you try to apply the EQ, though.
I play along to music as well through the TD-07 module. In that case, the music doesn’t sound as dynamic since it’s flat, but the drums bring it alive. I like having the controls on the front of the unit to adjust the volume, etc. which is why I preferred this over most PAs. While it’s 80 watts, it does get loud. I have my drums set up in my office, so it’s a smaller space. This monitor will not fill a large room and will not be sufficient for gigging. But that’s not my purpose.
On the bass, this is a full range monitor and something I learned through use and reading reviews is that none will have a strong bottom end. They produce the drums very well, but the kick lacks the low end – you get the kick itself, but if you crank the volume up it will distort if you are hitting the kick hard. While a stronger amp would have solved this (like the PM-200), the use of a PA speaks (as with all PA speakers) prevents being able to get the true low notes like you would from a true home speaker woofer or a sub. What I did was add a studio monitor sub (I went with the Monoprice 10″) to this so that only sound over 80-100 Hz is routed to the PM-100 and the sub handles the true low notes. The result is a great kick drum and with the low notes limited to the sub, the 80 watts in the PM-100 is plenty to handle the rest. All in, I spent about $500. Yes, I could have gotten the PM-200 for about that or a better PA, but ultimately I was looking for a better low end, not just louder. The sub solved that.
Again, this is not a setup that will work for playing out live. This is a monitor for my home office. It’s plenty loud for my purposes when I get fatigued from headphones. The PM-100 is built really well. It is a bit overpriced for what it is, but the Roland brand will have a premium charge for the name. I’m sure the Alesis or a Thump would work fine for many folks, but since I wanted the controls accessible from the top, I went with this solution.
