Schwinn used to be an American classic, now it’s just a waste of money in time. When I first got the bike, the gears attached to the pedals were wicked bent and I considered sending it back then, but was able to bend them back and get it working, very flimsy. The chain derailer wasn’t terrible to tune however, in the fourth and fifth gears, you could tell it was trying to shift up and down. The brakes were a mess because they were also warped and made a very poor metal. There was no way to get the front brakes and the back brakes exactly where they needed to be without bending them also. It aesthetically is pleasing, but after riding it for a few days the cheap metal was warping, and I had a tune it constantly. The bike suffered a malfunction when I was on 12 mile ride and I wiped out. There was no way to tune the breaks after that. I was unaware at the time, but the professional bike shops in my area don’t sell Schwinn anymore because of the poor quality. Wish I knew I had that knowledge before I bought it. If you want to get it for a wall piece or just to look at why not but it’s definitely not rideable. And if you’re a little bit older and prone to injury, especially stay away from it.

I just put this bike together. And as for the low put-it-together score, it wasn’t too bad, but it was a bike…
The sturdiness is not what I’m used to, the fenders are pretty flimsy as is the chain guard. It fact, it’s almost like the chain guard wasn’t there. Then there is the fact that the guard either got bent or was bent coming out of the box, not a good sign for keeping people safe.
Front brakes are a joke, luckily I’ve only ever used my front brake to see if I could go over the handlebars in my younger and stupidor days…. Still for those that use them beware.
And the tires are rated at 250lbs, Being over 300, well I’ll wait and see.
So here’s a thought. Since the CDC declared obesity is a health problem and can lead to diseases, and since some if not alot of us oldsters are obese due to the medication we have to be on to live. I would think makers of exercise equipment (i.e. bicycles) would make them a little beefier for people like me who like to ride in the country, rather than charge premium prices for equipment that has such a narrow demographic (your regular customers), why not make sturdier equipment, available for 90% of the people and charge a lower price point. I mean the parts themselves would only cost a dollar or so per unit more… It’s just a thought.

This bicycle is a replica of the Schwinn Niagara, which I left in Cuba in 1962. It was my first and favorite bicycle; and, a Christmas present in 1959. It’s a beautiful bike and made a 75 year old rider very happy 😊😊😊

3 months update – still doing good 🙂 no issues, put lights all over if for safety, have not adjusted anything! I would buy again if needed. new seat is all its needed if you want softer. I added a basket that ruined front logo, so be careful on baskets.
1 week update –
I got lucky and paid $95 on sale. so price now went up double. so I guess I got it after summer sale. great bike, no issues. new seat is great and I put lights all over for safety. If you are wondering to get 3 speed or this 7 speed, the 3 speeds are in this 7 speed are the high , low and middle. the extra ones do not help so much more. so 3 works too, but it is nice to have 7 but did not know that until I tested mine against a 3 speed.
Great bike and price… but why is price going down ? idk…
one day review-
put it together in a few hours mainly because I am a little rusty building bikes.this bike comes almost together. The front brakes are the toughest but if you follow directions closely it will not be a problem, back ones are set up already. I will get new handle bars which are the larger cruiser type. and maybe new seat. Lights all over for safety. everything was all perfect. I made two scratches building it, one flipping it over to put front tire on I hit back rack. and putting on seat I did not use a ratchet, using a Allen wrench should not be used since its tight area 🙂 It is faster then a 3 speed coaster brakes type for sure. This is a one day review, if any updates I will add.

I am a 78 yr old lady. If I can put it together (which I did) so can you, ladies. I couldn’t wait to ride it today after I tightened the last bolt. Much to my dismay, it is a tad too big for me. I am 5’3″ and I really should have gotten the small size. This one is a medium.
But, talk about a gorgeous bike, this is it. It took a bit to put it together but it was mostly already done. Once I figured out that the nuts, washers and bolts are already attached, it went faster. The only difficult thing was that I had to remove the front brake system to put the front wheel on. I don’t have it exactly like I want it but it’s close enough to ride.
After some of the reviews I had read, I was a little intimidated but as it turned out, I was quite surprised that the bike arrived without a hitch and without any scuffs or damage of any kind.
I wish Amazon still had it I would order a small and sell this one.
