Based on the measurements and what other mini dachshund owners had ordered, plus their successes, we ordered one MEDIUM in blue for our two male dachshunds. One is about 11 pounds and the other about 14 (more of a tweenie-lean and long, not fat).
The Medium is WAY too big for our mini 4 year old weighing about 11 pounds. He can easily slip his legs out of the holes. It is “okay” for our 14 pound, 7 year old male.
However, it still takes TWO people. And we use this over the walk in shower kit door so the included straps are way to small to fit over that rail. We use heavy duty rubber tie downs from our truck travel kit. Two work well.
You lay the harness on the floor. Call them to it. Hold them still and place legs in the holes. One person keeping them still while the other raises the sides. My husband has to hold the front two and the rear two tightly with his fists, especially for the 11 pounder because if not, he’ll just slip right out of it. Once he holds them up in the air, he walks them to the shower. He positions the harness under the rubber tie downs and I secure the metal tie down hooks into the harness loops. And he NEVER leaves hold of the harness, especially with the 11 pounder. They are not happy with it. They are NOT “zen” or “tranquil”. I give them a treat when they are attached to get them started.
Then while he contains a firm grip on the harness (especially behind the head) and making sure our smaller dachshund is moving his legs out of the holes…I use the rechargeable nail grinder. I have tried the clippers, but they still don’t like the sound of snap. We have found it is very important to still wear a headlamp because the lighting isn’t that great in the shower stall. They still wriggle and whimper for the nail trimming. I give a treat in between each toe. Even though we’ve been doing the 4 year olds nails over two years (he’s a rescue) and the 7 year olds nails (rescue) for nearly four years, they still don’t like it. The harness has made it easier in that the older dachshund can’t fight us quite as much as the little one cannot bite us or make teeth contact —as easily. It is an improvement but not nearly the improvement that some have reported and showed on youtube.
We bought two licky mats to suction to the shower wall and plan to smear no salt added nut butter (we have one with a peanut allergy so we can’t use peanut butter) when the order arrives. Someone posted a video of this online and it can give them a happy distraction while they lick and you trim.
There really needs to be some sort of extra security for behind the head. My husband uses one fist to keep a tight grip behind their head. He also tries to face them into the shower so they cannot see what I’m doing, otherwise, the little one still tries to teeth my hands while i work. We don’t want him to have that first bite experience.
We’ve used this three or four times now in the past week since we bought it. In general, we try to work at least a couple of nails at a time, trying to work on their nails about 3 times per week whenever possible. We’ve tried it on the couch, on the porch loveseat outside, standing over the sink, and now this hanging harness.
We would have definitely purchased the SMALL if we could have tried this on in a store.
The thin provided straps will fit over a standard shower rod or broom handle, however, we didn’t feel safe enough in the security to hang them from the shower rod since they are the types that expand to fit the wall space. The heavy duty rubber tie downs we had in the garage give us more options and allow us to use it in the shower kit.
Hopefully we can get them to relax more when we implement the licky mat distraction.
I would never try to do this alone. It would be very unsafe having them at that height. One lady had a tip: she put the harness loops over a mop handle and placed the mop handle between the rungs of two dining room chairs. I guess you’d have to sit on the floor, because the dog would be hanging pretty low, but might be an option for a single person.

Just used the sling for the first time on both of my small dogs.Neither wanted to fight or bite. They were comfortable and at ease.It made nail clipping go much faster.

not only was this absolutely hysterical to watch and see her get so upset, it worked wonders! we have doors on our shower so we hooked her onto the broom and threw her on top of the closet. we already had clippers, but the ones they sent worked well as did the file! if you have a squirmy dog, i highly recommend. worth it for the comedic value alone

Just got this for my 29 lb Frenchie and I don’t know why I waited for so long. This was great and easy to use! I bought size S per the recommendation, she is a little long, but didn’t make fuss nor one movement when hanging, clipped her nails within minutes! Don’t waste your gas and money at the vet or pet salon, do it safely and conveniently at home.

My 18lb mixed dog has had kidney disease for the past 3 years, or at least that’s how long I’ve had her for. Every week for the past 3 years, I’ve been doing subcutaneous fluids under her skin. She’s gotten to the point where she’s over it. She runs away, bites, squeals, alligator rolls, and anything else she can do in an attempt to get away. It BREAKS my heart but I know her kidneys need it. I came across this by chance and wondered if it would work for my dog’s subQ fluids… I COULD ACTUALLY CRY. Although a little difficult to do on my own, this has been the best situation for us! I had a portable clothes rack in the basement that I’ve been using and it’s sturdy enough to hold her! I put pictures of Foxy next to my 2 smaller chihuahuas for size reference. I ordered a small and medium. The small was suppose to work based on their recommendations but the medium was a better fit. I love the neck portion. She has chronic neck and back issues, IVDD, but this keeps her spine straight and pain free. I don’t know how comfortable this is tbh so I try to get her on there and out as quick as possible. I feel like the leg spaces are a little too small/snug and I feel like that’s the most uncomfortable part for her. So far, this has been a lifesaver for us.

We’ve been struggling with our 2 year old Pyreness, Blue Heeler mix. She just wouldn’t let us cut her nails, even with the max dose of trazodone the vet prescribed. We ordered this as a last ditch effort to help us be able to manage her nails at home. It worked like a charm. I’m so glad that we got it, because as soon as she was up in it, she was calm.

Although this product said for small dogs, it is too big for my small chihuahua cross Jack Russell. I did measure my dog as well to check if it would fit. The arm holes are too large and the fabric comes up too high on the neck area.
Looks reasonably made.

I use this all the time for our dog and it’s made a world of a difference on me and dog who is the biggest pain the butt when doing nails. The only down side is if you have a French Bulldog and a smaller one ( ours is 28 lbs) it’s kind of an awkward design with a frenchies build being so weight heavy in the front. But it still gets the job done we just use two people to help keep him in the sling since he doesn’t fit comfortably, that’s the only reason o have three stars.

My doxie hates having his nails trimmed. I hang him in this thing and he just goes limp. Our hour long nail trimming ordeal is now fives minutes and done.
The hammock is well made. The carabiner clips are lightweight aluminum. It works like a charm.

I was skeptical at first, but after using the Supet Dog Grooming Hammock Harness on my dogs, I am sold! It is, hands down, the best way for me to trim their nails. Well worth the money. Only draw back is the metal clips show in the picture are not the ones that come with the kit. Went to Home Depot and got two that were larger. You can use the ones that come with it, I just chose not to.
