Em Fitzgerald –
I bought this filter for my 10 gallon betta fish tank and so far it’s worked wonderfully. I’ve had it for a few months and it’s been put into two different 10 gallon tanks and worked great in both. The suction cup is pretty strong, and my filter has never fell off the side of the tank or lost its suction in any way.
This filter is super easy to take apart and clean, and the fact that it is a sponge filter means you don’t have to go through the time, money, and effort of putting new filter cartridges in; you just take the sponge out, wash it thoroughly, put it back in, and you’re done. What I do is run it under water from the sink and use a fork to press it down and make sure I get all of the algae out. It doesn’t have to be replaced and you can easily tell when it’s working vs. when it’s not (in other words, when it needs to be cleaned) by how well the water is coming out of the top part.
The filter makes a “rain” noise, as the water comes out of the top part and rains back down into the tank. I find it soothing, personally. There are adjustments you can make on the filter so it isn’t as loud, though, and if the sound truly bothers you, it’s easy to adjust the top part so that it pours out against the wall of the tank or into the water, making no sound. My fish likes his filter, and often likes to play next to it, which has not caused him any ill effects.
Overall this is the best filter I’ve found for my tank, and I’m really glad I’m using it. Highly recommend!

I would give this zero stars, but that was not an option.
Allow me to say, I knew that use with the product would be short-lived. I just never imagined I would get less than two weeks’ use. From the start, I realized little to no thought was given to the design and the instructions. Several of the parts fit in multiple places, with no obvious place for each part. Yes, there is a pictorial guide, but simply putting images on a glossy colored booklet sans usable instructions is useless.
Once I figured out how I wanted to set up the filter, the fun began. There is an awful buzz that drove me crazy, along with the lazy suction cups. I found myself readjusting the placement of the suction cups due to the constant sliding. It is likely the vibration that was causing them to not stay put. Ultimately, I placed a good size rock beneath the filter to prevent it from sliding.
I anticipated using the filter in my quarantine danio and Amano tank just until the primary tank cycled. No such luck. I ended up using a small air pump and airstone along with a small sponge filter. The neat-looking waterfall feature meant to create much-needed surface agitation stopped working almost immediately. Overall, there is not much one can expect from this product — did not get much either. I wanted to return it, but I did not desire to go through the hassle of drying it out and reboxing.
CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

Perfect little pump for my ten gallon. It came with attachments, so you can set it up as “water fall style”, or several other ways depending on your preference. My initial pump was damaged in shipping or something, but seller replaced it promptly! This new one works like a charm! Good value for the money, simple to maintain, nothing to replace or add monthly. Just rinse the sponge filter and go. Sponge filters foster beneficial organisms (infusoria) too tiny to see, but good for your aquarium ,and great for baby fish.
p.s. I rated the suction at 4 because that’s what I needed in this tank.
All I said was true but here i am 6 months later, and it has died a cruel death.

I’ve bought 2 of these now and I honestly love them for my nano planted tanks. I have one in a 5.5 gallon to help circulate water to places my HOB filter leaves stagnant. And I just put a second one in a new startup 2.5 gallon as the primary filter.
Pros: Small enough to put in my 2.5 gallon without taking up half the tank, which is quite the feat in a tank that is only 12x6x8inches total. Spray arm is adjustable two ways so you can control where water is circulating and still put the thing where you actually want it. Very quiet when all parts are submerged (I set mine so the spray arm sits just below the surface and all I hear is a quiet hum from the motor). Unlike other nano filters I’ve had, the motor in the first one I bought (10 months ago) still hasn’t failed (I’ve done basic impeller/housing cleaning every couple weeks but nothing more). The suction cups are pretty strong and also haven’t failed. Has good flow rate without blasting my plants around even in my tiny tank. Reusable filter sponge is easy to pull out, rinse and reinstall and there are no custom size cartridges to constantly hunt down and replace.
Cons: The flow rate isn’t adjustable. To change or rinse the filter media you have to pull the whole unit out of the tank, which isn’t unusual for this style, and it’s a good idea to clean the impeller regularly anyway, which also requires full removal.
Pro or con depending on your setup/preferences: the only filter media this comes with is a sponge. That was perfect for me because I wanted a sponge filter but not all the bubbles that traditional sponge filters produce. I haven’t tried this, but I imagine you could replace the sponge with filter media of choice in a mesh bag. That said, the compartment for filter media is not very big. And the suction cups are strong enough that prying this thing off the glass can be a mild struggle but I prefer that over having it fall off so that’s still a pro for me.
Overall, I’m really impressed by this little guy. I’ve tried all sorts of nano filters and so far this is the only one I have had a legitimately good experience with for more than 2-3 months. It won’t eliminate the need for water changes or normal tank maintenance but what it does, it does well.
