I have mostly believed, if you buy the best, you won’t regret it. That’s the case here. Best clip on tuner I have ever tried or owned. Very happy…

It is a bit pricey, but is easy to see, has two separate modes, and is extremely accurate. It folds up small and fits into the pocket of my guitar case. I do not play without using it to check the tuning of my Martin! The shipping was extremely fast, too!

    Absolut TOP!

Turn it on, tune guitar, play.

This device switches off automatically after 3 mins. That’s it. The simplicity of the action of tuning seems almost worthless to note.

On the surface of it, it is ludicrous to be excited about such a finctional bit of kit as a tuner. But, once you’ve used many cheap tuners over years and then use the Polytune, you might immediately wonder why you didn’t use this before. I could go on and on but there are plenty of fantastic reviews here and the features of the tuner are very well explained so I just wanted to say “It’s great” and lets you just get on and play.

I love kit that does its job as quickly and simply as it can, is built to last, incorporates a minimal style and does not include superfluous features and fuctions. Get all that right and the price for anything meeting these points is probably right as is the case with this Polytune clipon.

This tuner is a beautiful example where the balance of function, usability, build and style are perfect. I can see myself using this tuner for years. There is one point of irrationality though as I will probably buy another, possibly just because I want two as it is that good, which is not very rational and I know that I will convince myself that having two is a good idea for some reason.

Regarding the design, I did read one review which criticised the clip for being ‘naked’, capable of damaging the finish and not capable of swivelling. The clip has two silicone patches. on each part that will come into contact with your guitar. The silicone on the fixed part of the clip even has a raised back end acting as a STOP to prevent the spring from contacting the headstock. The clip allows for 180 degree lateral movement of the tuner only. However, simply pivoting the clip will pitch it up and down to find the best angle without damage. If damage was so much of a concern, one might want to cease using a clip-on altogether for something more favourable as dirt and particles may create microscopic scratches to the finish which may become noticeable in time and if the instrument is not regularly maintained.

This is my first clip-on tuner, and I think it’s pretty great despite not having anything to compare it to. It seems to be every bit as accurate, quick and easy to use as my Polytune 2 pedal tuner (which I also really love).

The polyphonic mode isn’t as accurate as when you check each string individually (in fact, yes, the modes appear not to agree perfectly sometimes, as one guy who gave it two stars noted), but the polyphonic function gives you a quick and easy way to see if a string is so far out of tune that you should take the time to adjust it. One strum across all the strings and a quick glance is all it takes to see where things are at, and it’s a super fast way to tune all your strings at once if you’re in a hurry and don’t want to tune each string one at a time to perfection (and if you do, then you may also suffer from OCD). Strobe mode is very accurate, but a little trippy to decipher until you get used to it, then it’s very fast (also sort of space-age and fun).

When deciding to purchase this I read some reviews that complained that they didn’t like the clip, but I don’t agree with them. It appears minimalist, functional, and robust. I’m not sure what those other folks expect. From an aesthetic design standpoint, this tuner is a lot less obtrusive and far more slick looking than the other options out there. One guy said he was afraid it could scratch his headstock, but I think you’d have to work at it pretty hard for that to happen.

I also read some reviews that complained that the PolyTune Clip was a little fussy about where it’s placed on the headstock in order to read all the strings. I found this to be somewhat true, but not an issue for me since it works great on the end of my Martin acoustic headstock, and in the middle of both my Fender Stratocaster headstocks (though not as well on the tip of the Stratocaster headstock where it’s harder to see anyway). Others complained that since it doesn’t swivel in all directions they didn’t like it, but I’ve not really found that to be a problem for me since the best placements on my headstocks also happen to be in places and at an angle where it’s easy to see. I also suspect that if it had another point to swivel from it may not be as accurate and sensitive as it is since more rotating parts means more places to negatively affect the vibrations it’s trying to sense.

In order to get the most out of it, you probably need to read the manual. I suspect some of the negative reviewers aren’t big on doing that, and that’s why they’re happier with the less expensive clip-on tuners. Or maybe they just got a defective unit, who knows.

Playing bass clean without pedals, tuning has been a problem while playing at our church. I’ve tried other ‘clip on’ tuners that just couldn’t ‘hear’ when trying to tune bass. While the Polytune is more expensive than others… It WORKs great. And the precision is spot on. (I use it for setup and intonation also) if you want a tuner that will work with terrific accuracy in every condition, buy this tuner.

A little pricey but I usually wait a little while before. I write reviews for most of the items I purchase so far. This is a great little clip on tuner. For your guitar, it’s made of aluminum.
The display is very bright Easy to see in dark places.
Multiple Tunings. I would say for a guitar player. It’s a sound investment.
You will have to change the battery after a while. It doesn’t have a lithium-ion battery built-in. That’s the only downfall.

Let me start with this; I am a huge TC Electronic fanboy. I own 7 of their products and I love them all.
I have seen how good the TC Polytune pedals are but never bought one due to them being too expensive. So when this came out I was interested but originally decided I wouldn’t buy it; however when I recently played a show at an outdoor venue and had to hide behind the PA to see my tuner I saw why these are so popular and decided to get one.
Let’s start with what I like:
The tuning itself is uncanny in how accurate it is. This will keep you in great tune even in alternate tunings, the different harmonic resonance usually created by these tunings often will trip up clip-on tuners, but this Polytune handles these with ease. The second as I have already mentioned, is the brightness. No matter how bright a stage you are on you will be able to see the Polytune without an issue (especially if you keep it behind the headstock like me). The third is the design; this thing is solid as a rock, definitely feels very high quality, also it looks awesome. Usually tuners are an eyesore and that is why everyone tries to hide them behind headstocks or take them off or use tuning pedals or whatever; that is not the case with this one. It is very pretty and will fit in against any guitar finish you clip it to.
Now on the stuff that I think could use some improvement:
First is the switching between polyphonic and needle/strobe: on the higher strings this is a non issue, but on the lower strings the harmonics will frequently trick it and it will switch to polyphonic mode. If there were hardware manual switch/button on there to switch the modes that’d definitely be an improvement. Second, this thing is pretty expensive. It is definitely the world’s best clip-on tuner, but still if it were $35 that’d be much more reasonable.
All that aside, this is a really good product and definitely worth adding to your guitar-senal (makes a great gift too). I’ll be using mine for a long time to come and I hope TC continue to improve it in the future
