I bought this to help my 6 yr old with his reading. I had to down grade my computer just to install it. And when it did finally come up I found that my son would just click on anything as it wasn’t very good at explaining things to the kids.

As a tool to teach my children to learn to read, I found this game to not be very effective. It was fun for them to play.
At the time I was teaching my children to read what existed were the earliest Blue’s Clues videos, abc’s and 123’s. They were basic but effective. I do not believe their format for newer versions of Windows has been updated. Also the Blues Clues videos on shapes and colors were valuable. The others were moderately effective for me. There are likely to be better tools now which I am unaware of.
One other set of tools I found engaging and effective were the Leap Frog videos: Letter Factory, Talking Words Factory, Code Word Caper(?) and Math Circus. These three LF videos were excellent on inculcating the basics. I hope that they went further with Math. The Math Circus video caught my children’s attention and the information stuck. I found other tools for shapes which taught them about parallelograms, trapezoids – shapes that are beyond the minimal 4 that are usually considered sufficient for little children.
We forget that exposing them to all these sophisticated images and concepts in a simplified and engaging manner when they are very young, is incredibly effective. They are sponges for everything when they are in those early years. My first son learned the Hebrew alef-beth with flash cards at 16 months. He began to read at 2y and 4m. (He spelled “crash” to us, a word he had been hearing and copying with a software package I gave him.) I taught him fractions by making him learn to calculate the increase necessary to double or triple the recipe for oatmeal cookies at three – motivation. By 4 he understood negative numbers, bounded and unbounded infinities and exponentials.
I also recommend Cyber Chase from PBS. Excellent! Too bad they ended it.
Hope this helps.

I love this game. I grew up on it and it is a great learning tool. Although they need up update their stuff because while these will run on Windows 10 they don’t let you finish the game. After playing some of the game it cuts out and kicks you off the game. My kids were really bummed because they LOVED this game!
