The Booked Mama –
After a disastrous semester at boarding school, Finley can’t wait to get back to her hometown, possibly for good but when she arrives back in Christmas, Oklahoma things aren’t much better there. Her best friend is dating her ex, her parents are separated with her mother left town and now her father is living at her Grandmother’s inn where her arch-nemesis now works. So much for a break from the drama. Just when she thought things couldn’t get much worse the newest guests at the Inn happen to be in Christmas because of some slight embellishment Finley might have done to the town tourism page. Arthur, a classmate of Finley’s, and his aunt have flown all the way to Christmas to have a big, traditional holiday thanks to some creative marketing and are now expecting big parades, reindeer and snow. Now it’s up to Finley to make sure that their trip isn’t wasted and hopefully find some Christmas magic of her own along the way. “So, This is Christmas” is a sweet YA read that is perfect for the Christmas loving teen in your life. Finley & Arthur’s story only begins in “So, This is Christmas” and continues on in Andreen’s second book “So, This is Love”. A great TBR for the YA audience.

Just okay.

A charming book that’s aimed at the YA audience but I think anyone who has a soft spot for Christmas and romance will enjoy it. The “will they or won’t they get together?” tension between small town Oklahoma girl Finley and wealthy, reserved British classmate Arthur is central to the story. But Finley is dealing with much more — family secrets, parental issues, conflicts with old friends, and big questions about her future. All the other characters are nicely drawn and feel real and relatable. The writer does a nice job of capturing the emotional roller coaster ride Finley is on, but also adds lots of humor. Throw in a tourist town named “Christmas” as the setting, with all the rituals, pageantry and homey ambience, and you have a great, heart warming holiday read.

So, This is Christmas is a very cute contemporary read about Finley who wasn’t expecting to go home for holidays and finds an unexpected guest there too.
Finley’s family runs a bed and breakfast in the small town of Christmas, Oklahoma. A rival, Arthur, of Finley’s shows up at the inn as a guest and “demands” her to show him what an American Christmas is all about. The reason why he demands is because Finley did a bit of a makeover of the town website to make her life look a little more exciting to other classmates.
My expectations of this book were a little low due to me thinking this would be just a fluffy Christmas read. Honestly that’s what this book is: a fluffy cute Christmas read in a town called Christmas. The story has more depth though. Finley deals with the expectations of her family, the feeling of being a failure at her boarding school, first/second love, secondary romances, her parents possibly divorcing, and then the very weird adventure of showing British Arthur how Americans do Christmas.
Overall not a bad read and I think 13-16 year olds will enjoy this book more. The book reminded me of a hallmark movie. Of course this book has a happy tidy ending and apparently has a sequel?!
I’m definitely curious.
3.5 stars
Dominique Trudel –
Lovely light Christmas read. Good book club pick but sadly the author clearly thinks the British are like characters from Downton Abbey, really rather un-researched. Why did no one point this out, or at least Google!
The Booked Mama –
It was cute and main character was funny and witty. Reading this book was a nice escape during the holidays.
Rachel Call –
I actually read “So This Is Love” first and knew I had to read this. and it didn’t disappoint. it’s such a cute, romantic story. filled with holiday cheer. these books are ones I’ll probably re read.
John Rogers Clark IV –
Finley is not only a fish out of water, lives too much in her head. Leaving what she feels is the stifling environment of Christmas, Oklahoma to attend a fancy private school back east is something she thinks will be a welcome and healthy change. Unfortunately, she’s now a little fish in a big pond and completely intimidated by her classmates. Finley thinks they’re richer, prettier, smarter, and more sophisticated than she is. This leads her to hack the town website and make her home town seem far jazzier and Christmas-like than it is, but also causes her to lose what self-esteem remains and decide not to return after Christmas break.
It takes the unexpected arrival of stiff and stuffy Arthur, who also attends the private school, along with his aunt from England to spend the holiday at her grandmother’s inn, ostensibly because of all the attractions/events Finley put on the website. Read along as she and Arthur do a prickly dance that becomes so much more, the town celebration turns not only hilarious, but scarily like the hacked website, and another, unexpected romance blossoms. All of it making for a most satisfying story.

The best way I can describe this book is if high school aged Lorelei Gilmore and a British Logan Huntsberger met at boarding school and then fell in love in a Stars Hollow type town. There are a fair amount of side character plot lines that really fill out the reading experience.
The author of this book has written several Hallmark movies and that shows in this book. While there wasn’t anything ground breaking with the actual plot of the story, the magic was in the story telling and the atmosphere of this book. I very quickly fell in love with the characters as well as the quirky little town. I also really appreciated the amount of grown that Finley (female mc) goes through in this story.
Lollygagging –
This was a super charming, sweet, often hilarious, and easy Christmas read that stayed with me for a long time after I put it down. The characters were interesting and cute and not limited to just the YA category, the adults get plots, too. But this story is really about Finley and her journey of trying to figure things out while noticing the boy she thought was annoying has a lot more going for him than she originally thought.
