I bought this Hard Drive for a laptop. My laptop had an M.2 slot for an NVME SSD, and a SATA slot. I bought this so that I can fill my empty SATA slot. Now, I use this to store some data, and it worked very good. Recommend to buy this! Great Hard Drive from TOSHIBA!!!

First time Toshiba buyer here. I’ve had like 4 seagate drives and they were all SUPER loud, but I was pleasantly surprised how SILENT this drive is! I seriously don’t know why people don’t use these laptop drives in mid tower gaming PC’s, I’ve had so many bad experiences with 3.5″ hard drives. It’s fast, and the price is reasonable. I highly recommend this hard drive!!
Pros:
+Silent!
+Fast
+2.5″ (Great for mini ITX builds)
+Price/Capacity
Cons:
-Kinda wish it were 1TB otherwise no cons

I have MSI laptop and a fast nvme 500gb ssd running as my primary drive. But this laptop comes with extra space for 2nd hard drive so I added this hdd. I know ssd is the rage now but I got this for budget and space, and it was only gonna be 2nd drive anyways. I run my games and OS off primary drive but this secondary drive is great for storing my music and movies and a few older games. It still accesses pretty fast for hdd. And it is quite quiet for something that is spinning at 7200 rpm. Well-designed I suppose. I’ve been running it for months at about half capacity ~270/500 gb. The only drawback was that there were some files on drive, so I had to wipe and format before using. Make sure you do this with any drive purchase!!! Maybe manufacturer was trying to be helpful by putting some old win OS on there, but I didn’t like it. I think buying a drive new, any kind of drive should be 100% blank whether nvme ssd, sata ssd or hdd. But performance is key with me, so I still give it a 4.

I bought four of these hard drives based on the reviews from two different vendors. 3 of 4 failed within a week.
Two came shipped in sealed anti-static packaging from ETARATECH. I installed the two from ETARATECH two different laptops. I could not even install Windows on the first which led me to run diagnostics of which it failed the surface test quite quickly. The second one seemed to be fine but after I had loaded Windows and all other software, it seemed to start running very slow. Then I started getting software errors. I tested and this drive also failed diagnostics. The drives had manufacturing dates of 08 APR 2014 and 09 APR 2014.
The two I ordered through ShouShi Trading arrived in a bubblewrap envelope only (no box) with NO anti-static packaging. Because of this, I tested the drives immediately. One failed but the other passed. I have no idea of the longevity of this remaining drive and if it fails quickly I will modify my review. The date on the failed drive is: 16 SEP 2015
I have been in the computer repair business for quite a few years and have gotten hard drives in the past that were DOA. I suspect in some cases it was a bad manufacturing lot. I’m mostly upset because both laptops these were installed on were flat bottom and so each took more time to install and then to remove.
I guess I was hoping to get a bargain on some inexpensive hard drives to refurbish a few computers. The manufacturing dates really weren’t a factor for me as long as they were new drives. Now I’m not sure if these were even new drives at all. BUYER BEWARE.

The hard drive is a lot faster than expected. The only gripe is the mounting screws were missing. I had to use some from an old laptop’s drive to completely install the hard drive.

Works well in just about any laptop that uses a standard 2.5″ 7mm SATA drive. Can’t “not like” a 500 gig drive at this price. Hard to believe such data storage is available at such low-per-gig cost. I’m from the old days of computing. MicroSD drives still amaze me in tech prowess. 1/2 terrabyte hard drives are incredible. Scary amazing. People who have grown up with tech don’t realize how incredible this is, but those of us who grew up in the days of “no cell phones yet”, who were in our late teens when the first Apple II hit the market– never thought we’d see a hard disk drive past the 1 gig size. Toshiba is a good, reliable brand; this drive performs well.
