It’s hard to tell how sturdy it is by looking at photos and for the price it makes ya wonder. We received it fast it was easy to set up and a solid unit. So if your wonder “ how solid is this thing” I’m impressed, and that’s not easy.

I recently purchased this cage as an emergency back up cage for my chinchillas. When purchasing this item I knew the quality wouldn’t compare to the MidWest Homes Critter Nation double unit cage my two girls live in. Like I said, it’s for emergencies and hopefully I’ll never need to use it. It does give me piece of mind that if I needed to separate them for any reason or if I needed to transport them someplace for an extended period of time I’m prepared. I was looking into a collapsible travel cage but it was over four times the amount of this item and I couldn’t justify the expense.

Assembly was pretty straight forward. Some of the panels were slightly warped but I was able to bend them back easily with my bare hands. This says something about the quality and stability of the metal. I’d be surprised if this cage can withstand the shenanigans of an active chinchilla for an extended period of time. I wouldn’t put up ledges for fear the metal bars would snap when they jumped on them. I did attach the included plastic tray but will cover it with anti-pill fleece, as plastic is a danger to chins. (If they chew it, which they most likely will at some point, it can cause blockage and be fatal.) I will also be making fleece cage liners for the floor as the bars on the bottom of the cage aren’t good for their feet. They can catch a toe while running around.

This cage measures 24”X17”. The MidWest cage measures 36”X25”. So it’s almost half the surface area of the MidWest Cage. I wanted a smaller size for this cage as it will be easier to put in my car and transport if necessary so it works for my purpose. Personally, I would not be happy with this size as a full time home for one chin (definitely not two). If you have a smaller animal it may work fine. Chinchillas need room to jump around. I would NOT attach a wheel. It would take up the majority of the cage (15” minimum circumference or they can end up with hunched backs) and it would not be stable and most likely would snap the bars it was attached to. Anyone who owns a chin knows how hard they run on these things. The entire cage rattles and you wonder how it stays up.

I like the locking mechanism on the door; it feels solid and secure. And I also like the hatch that opens from the top of the cage. It’s flimsy but I like the concept for easy access.

I give this item 3 stars because it works as a temporary home for a chinchilla but I doubt it would last. I’d spend the extra money and get the sigle unit MidWest cage. It’s more stable, more room to attach ledges, a wheel, water bottle, etc., and it’s expandable. You can get an add on unit later on and build up. (I’ve actually been debating buying the add on and turning my double unit into a triple but my girls are spoiled as it is.) If you go the cheaper route it’ll work for a while but if you replace the cage only once it’s equivalent in cost to the MidWest cage which should last the life of your pet.

If you have a smaller animal that isn’t as forcefully athletic, vaulting off the side of the cage, this cage may work fine for you. If, like me, you want an emergency back up cage, this will work fine (just cover the bars on the floor and any plastic should you use the included shelf or ramp). In these instances this cage is a decent value for the money. If you are looking for a permanent home for a chinchilla, I suggest you go with MidWest’s Ferret or Critter Nation cage. It’s larger, safer and will last much longer saving you money in the end. It’s better to make the investment up front.

I’m attaching a photo of the freshly assembled unit in front of our couch for size reference. I’m also attaching a photo of my current cage with a red rectangle showing how this cage compares in size. Be mindful that this cage isn’t as deep so it doesn’t go as far back either. Remember, for a chinchilla you’ll need to add a hide, a hay feeder, food dish and water bottle at minimum. This will fill this cage’s space rather quickly.

Overall, it will do. The size is perfect for what I wanted. It is a bit flimsy and one of the welds came broken-we found a fix to make it work. I wish the bar spacing wasn’t so wide but we were able to wrap it in ss mesh. the access doors to make it one or two cages is hokey and I’m glad we didn’t want to use them. For the price I can’t be upset.

I have a small baby critter who will most likely never hit above 5oz in his adult life, and I don’t like the idea of having him in a small hamster cage. My concerns are having a containment that doesn’t exceed wire spacing of 1/2″ vertical and horizontal. I was initially looking at the Critter Nation, but even with that unit, I will still need to use 1/2″ square chicken type wire to line the cage. I also couldn’t imagine where in the heck I could provide the space for a 36″ wide across and 24-25″ deep cage! I prefer having walkways in my home. I also had no need for a cage with doors on each side. I worry about the security and function if one door fails. I love the idea and appearance of a 3 tier cage. Although Widwest provides an easy option of purchasing add ons, a 3 tier Critter Nation would reach up to 88″ in height! –I don’t have an exclusive room for such arrangement. If I did have a permanent spare room, then maybe getting a pair of the Critter Nations would be an option. I want to be able to keep this cage in the kitchen area and be able to move it around if needed to other rooms. The Yaheetech is roughly half the weight of the other option, very well made and sturdy in design.

I am very happy with my choice getting 2 Yaheetech Ferret cages! The shipping was super fast; 2 day FedEx on both. With shipping and tax, each unit was under $140; together only $278.80 and cheaper than one 2 tier Critter Nation.

I found the instructions super easy. I just had to refer to the parts page, while following instruction. I used my own 5/32 allen wrench with hex key tip and set up was a breeze. For 3rd tier add-on, I used the 2nd floor setup (using the top piece with upper door and 2 hook loops for ramp hanging) twice. The Yaheetech is fully capable of this setup. The ramps are very easy to attach to the plastic level trays “if” you put your 5/32 allen wrench through the hooks under the tray and gently stretch the plastic…the ramps pop in securely and fairly easily.

This made the perfect compromise for “grandma’s needs” and “spoiling furry grandchild”. His little mansion tower is 3 tiers, but only 74.5″ tall, 31″ wide and 20.25″ deep. It’s a very sturdy cage for our needs, and the wheels hold the unit’s extra tier and roll very well. I must say it is a very nice looking cage! I love the design, the doors are very well made and work beautifully…it’s going to be so much fun decorating inside with more things to spoil our little guy. For the bottom floors, we are using cardboard and rug style mats, so his little feet won’t need to deal with wire bottoms. –Something I prefer over plastic liners anyway…we don’t want him chewing any plastic.

I found no flaws, no rust and no issues with these units. I also have the choice of creating a single rolling unit with bottom shelf (to gift/donate or use for another room or family home) or keep for spare parts.

I highly recommend Yaheetech 2-story ferret cage and the option for getting 2, for creating a 3 story setup. (their one story rolling unit with shelf is smaller than this setup and won’t work) 5 stars across the board! We are very happy =)

I’ve had several brands of ferret cages over the past 22 years. I had recently purchased a “nation” cage and it was delivered busted and bent to the point of no use. I returned it and immediately ordered this one. This cage arrived quickly and in perfect condition. I know some ppl complain about only having 1 side of the cage doors to open. However I like this choice. On my other ferret cages that both doors opened and I had several issues with them not meeting up to close properly. The ONLY downside to this cage is the wire flooring, however that can be easily fixed with cardboard or coroplast cut to fit. I attached some pics to help explain. This cage is great for the price and I highly recommend it.

Les grillages de la cage sont tout crochent et mincent. Une fois assemblée la cage reste croche. 🙄

Great cage, once assembled. But the assembly is a but tedious due to the size.

To clean it would be better if both doors opened. In fact the entire thing would be better. Instructions are terrible..
Once it’s together it’s great, again be better if both doors opened.

This is the perfect size cage for small animals. I have my two Guinea’s in it, and they love it! Very simple and easy assembly- once you figure out the layout!! (And believe me I am not a builder lol) I can already tell this is going to be much easier to clean and maintain.
