Being able to transport 6 bikes!
Lots of complements on the vertical mount style.
I can open the back of the SUV with the bikes on. The door doesn’t go all the way up, but it’s enough to get past the ‘fall back down’ point, making it easy to get my stuff.

    Dislikes:

    1) Difficult to lift bikes on and off the rack. Much harder than my previous thule platform rack. Lots of grumbling from my freeloader passengers. My wife can’t use it but she could use the thule.
    2) On my SUV, it has to in the second (angled) position to avoid having the tires contact my roof. It doesn’t look very strong/stable to me, and it really bounces around whenever I hit bumps in the road. I took four bikes on a 5 hour trip, and then shuttled 6 bikes at the destination and I was pretty uncomfortable watching it move around. I’m thinking to add an anti-sway clamp to see if that helps.
    3) The SKS lock cores are more expensive than Thule’s. Seems like the price could be a LOT lower. $40 for two cores with keys at the local shop. I’d think they’d still make a tidy profit at half that price.
    4) It doesn’t come with a 15/16 wrench for the hitch pin bolt. Gotta have or buy your own.

Great hitch rack for 6 person mountain bikes. I can load 24, 26, 27.5 and 29’s. Easy assembly and able to install it on the hitch by myself. Hitch lock works great, just wish it had a way to lock the bikes down. Will have to come up with my own cable and lock system. Best option for 6 mountain bikes. Tilt makes for easy loading and removal.

On my second trip with this snazzy new bike rack, my brand new bike fell off on the freeway. While I was in a bumpy construction zone, it doesn’t give me any comfort to know that such a thing can happen. The only saving grace was that the rear wheel ratchet strap kept it from letting go entirely. That said the handle bars were destroyed and it was quite a nightmare to be scrambling to re-attach the bike while on the freeway!

The engineering glitch on this rack is the slot on the far right, if the rubber fork strap pops off (as it did) the bike can then hop right off the end of the rack. If Yakima placed a vertical post (much like what they have to the left of each fork seat) on the right side of that far right slot, it would be almost impossible for bikes to jump off the rack.

I really like the ability to carry six bikes, but I am really nervous this will be a common thread with this rack. I noticed that a four star review had a bike fall off (how can that still merit a 4-star review? I was lucky and my $5000+ bike only suffered a couple hundred $’s in damages, so I guess it could have been worse. But I really didn’t want to spend hard earned cash replacing asphalt-ground down parts on a new bike.

It’s a wall built piece of equipment. It takes a bit of practice to figure out how to mount different mountain bikes. It doesn’t work very well for bikes that are different sizes. But it’ll last forever if you keep the rubber straps out of the sun.

This thing is amazing. If you need a large bike rack for multiple bikes just buy this. Is it kind of hard to install? Yes. Is it a bit difficult to figure out how to hang the bikes the first couple of times? Yes. But after that it’s a breeze. I feel very secure driving with this on the highway. A great way to transport several bikes. Well worth the money!

We bought this for my family of seven. We still put one bike on the roof. The assembly was a little tedious, but will only have to do it once. Overall we are pleased with how functional it is. We could access the back of our suburban while towing the bike rack. We have used it twice and always get questions about it at every stop.
