When buying these random pieces, you never really know if you’ll get a good cut. I purchased a small and large piece and I’m extremely happy with my purchase.
The delivery was quick and painless.

I was hesitant to buy a piece of wood online as I was afraid I’d get just a small flat piece of wood. The piece I got is not only beautiful but it is the perfect size. I have put mine in a terrarium with my air plants and I couldn’t be more pleased. It has holes through it that make it perfect to arrange my plants. Would look great in an aquarium as well.

This is a very pretty piece of wood! I absolutely love it! My bristlenose pleco is all around it! I placed it immediately in my aquarium as I wanted the tannins for my betta, yay less catapa leaves! I got the medium and it is quite large. I have another “large” driftwood which is half the size and conbined them. I absolutely recommend this product! It’s the best one and extremely inexpensive for what I got!

I now have 3 pieces of mopani wood in my aquarium (2 of them from Amazon). The first time I put a piece in, I do admit that I was shocked when a) the water turned reddish brown and b) slime grew on the wood. However, of course the tannins are going to leak from the wood and change the color (and the pH) of the water – this is EASILY remedied by weekly 10% water changes and changing out the carbon every 2 weeks. If you like the “blackwater” color than this wood is perfect for that. As for the “slime”…this is a fungus that feeds on the sap as it is leaching out of the wood. This problem goes away on its own in about a week. You can prevent it by boiling the woods in a stock pot for about 15 minutes.

With that, I love this wood! It is really pretty and my fish love it! I have cichlids, yoyo and clown loaches, and plecos. It is great for hiding, feeding, and apparently spawning =)

I also ordered medium and it was pretty big, but I am definitely not complaining about that!

I recently bought some live plants for my aquarium and had read they would grow much better rooted to driftwood than they would just stuck in cheap gravel substrate. I knew it would be a few days before I could make it up to the pet store, so I went ahead and ordered a piece of this driftwood instead. It came quickly and has done it’s job well, but there are definitely a few things worth noting…

First off, you’re definitely playing the driftwood lottery by ordering a piece of unique driftwood you cannot see before purchasing. Anyone who buys this should anticipate that! In all honesty, I only have a 5 gallon tank, so my fingers were actually crossed that I really did get a “small, boring” piece of wood like so many people had complained about. Instead, I got a piece of wood that runs right at about 10.75 inches in length. It’s larger than i wanted, but still fits in my tank comfortably at least.

Second, this wood absolutely DOES leech tannins. Given the size of the piece of wood I received, I boiled mine for about 10 hours (changing the water approximately every hour). The boiling was done over the course of two days and between the two days, I soaked the wood for about 16 hours and changed the water three times. The very final time I boiled the wood, it was still leeching tannins, but was a huge improvement over the original few boilings. Following that, I put it straight into my tank and have not seen any leeching. Although I believe the wood is probably still leeching a small amount of tannins, my small carbon filter seems to be taking care of all of it.

Third, even if the tannins don’t bother you, I still suggest boiling this wood at least once, for an hour or so. This is because the very first time I boiled mine, the water was extremely murky and bubbly muck collected at the top of my pot. I believe it was a combination of bacteria and sap, as the sticky brown substance never came off of the spoon I had poked my wood with during that first boil. RIP Spoon, RIP!

Finally… My piece of wood did not sink. Not even a little. I actually soaked it for 4-5 hours prior to that first boiling, but it wasn’t until the boil that it actually started sinking. Thankfully, I never had a problem with it after that. It’s quite waterlogged now!

Overall, I’m happy with the purchase, but next time I’ll probably head to store to pick out a piece so it’ll be a little less random.

This bog wood is great! I boiled it for 3 hours and put it in the tank after it cooled. It did turn the water a light tea color, but that didn’t bother me, and it’s fine for fish/frogs and helps keep the ph at a normal/lower level. I really like the colors in the wood as well. The longer it is in the tank the more colors come out, with was a fun surprise. I tied some java grass to the wood and it is taking really well and carpeting the wood with grass. The small bog wood was the perfect size for my 5 gallon tank. (I have several plants and a small sunken ship in there as well.) I definitely recommend it to anyone looking for some natural wood and look in your tank. If you like live plants the bog wood is a must to help keep the ph to a level they’ll do well in and of course you can tie plants to the wood and they will grow into it making for a great, natural look to your tank- your fish will love you!

This will darken the water of your tank if you don’t soak them in a bucket for a week or so prior to use. The aquatic creatures seem to like it.

I am baffled by how anyone could debate that the sizing of this wood is not generous. I actually had to saw (with a real saw- this is SOLID quality wood!) mine to get it in the fish bowl.

The wood has a variety of textures and colors, and is gorgeous. Photos truly do not do it justice, and it is heavy and solid. I grew up with a father who did woodwork as a hobby, as did my brother, and this is truly quality wood from my own experience.

The thing to keep in mind with a fish tank/bowl or any water: wood leaks tannic acid, which will lower the PH of your water, which most sources say is GOOD for your fish. However, this results in a brown/dark hue in your water that is not pleasant to look at. We tend to think of “clear water” as best, but we aren’t fish, we are people and we drink water rather than breathe it. To eliminate the dark hue, the most successful method I have found (much better than soaking) is boiling. I did this all day long, then tested it in room temp water the next day, but you will still get color in your water..there is no way around it!

I chose to use this wood dry as decor in my home instead, as I was trying to use it in a betta bowl and the wood was taking over so much space that my betta would be a bit crowded.

Ordered the product, it came in quickly, sturdy wood and great size for the price. However even AFTER boiling and letting it sit for 48 hours, multiple months of it being in my tank with regular water changes and the PH is STILL 5.5, and the water orange, it was advertised as low-tannins. OK product, especially for price, but it might not be worth the hassle of draining tannins.
