    This is a review of Trycoo store’s ” WI-6 Pro Mini PC, Intel 12th Gen N100 Mini Computer,16GB DDR4 RAM 512GB SSD,Triple 4K Display/2*USB3.0/WiFi/Bluetooth/Full Function Type-C/LAN/Support 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD Extensions”

I got this PC to run Ubuntu on and I wanted to have a higher capacity storage device on it. After I received the PC, I contacted Trycoo store’s technical support staff to determine if this could be done. They told me (twice) that the SSD drive could not be upgraded to a higher capacity and the memory couldn’t be upgraded to a higher capacity even though the product listing indicated that they could both be upgraded. The product listing stated “You can replace the SSD to a maximum of 2 TB M.2 2280 SSD(not included) to expand the storage.” And, the product listing title stated “Support 64GB RAM and 2TB SSD Extensions”.

Trycoo’s technical support said they would not provide any technical support for me to accomplish any upgrades. I decided the technical support information they provided to me was incorrect and that I could swap out the existing 512gig NVMe SSD and replace it with a 2 TB SSD drive on my own. So, before I did anything at all with this PC, I purchased a compatible 2 terabyte M.2 2280 PCIe NVMe SSD to replace and upgrade the 512gig SSD storage space on it. This SSD memory swap was easy for me to do. (I have some prior experience with working on computer hardware.) I set aside the 512gig Windows 11 Pro SSD drive that I took out. I’ll probably find a good use for it down the line. (So far, I haven’t seen the need to increase the system memory capacity….)

On the computer’s first boot-up, I booted to a flashdrive with Ubuntu 24.04.1 LTS on it so I could install Ubuntu 24.04.1 on the PC. The installation worked well. With 16gig of DDR4 memory and a fast SSD drive, the PC is now running the latest version of Ubuntu at a fast clip.

I’m using this computer as the core of my entertainment center in the kitchen. I appreciate its small form factor to easily fit it in the room. I connected a small, wireless keyboard with an integrated mouse touchpad to it to add flexibility in the placement of the computer. With the PC’s hard-wired Ethernet Internet connection, it runs 1080p video streaming operations without any hiccups (when the host servers are cooperating).

Since the PC is powered by a relatively low-power 12 volt/3amp power brick, I may also use this PC in an off-grid environment. I’m hoping I can get a fair amount of runtime connecting the computer’s powerbrick to an inverter running off a bank of 12 volt batteries.

With the exception of the technical support, overall, I’m generally pleased with the PC. However, I do want to call your attention to the HDMI version 2.0 and Bluetooth version 4.2. These are not HDMI and Bluetooth’s current versions. I suggest that one consider the lack of current features offered in the most recent HDMI and Bluetooth versions before purchasing this PC.

My 4 star rating is based on the poor technical support and the HDMI and Bluetooth not being the current versions.

I’ve been a Mac guy for … a very long time, but as an electronics hobbyist I often encounter situations where I need to be able to run Windows software on native hardware. Enter the Trycoo mini-pc, which is priced very competitively and punches above its weight from a speed, RAM and storage perspective! I have wall-mounted the Trycoo on my wall, and it’s connected to my screen & keyboard via a KVM switch along with two Mac Mini’s and a RPi5.

I don’t use it all that often, but when I do, I push it pretty hard with whatever app I’m running. And while I don’t expect blazing speed at this price point, it’s perfectly usable and snappy enough. I thought I’d toggle back to my Mac frequently to perform other tasks while the Trycoo chugs away – but I’m finding that I don’t need to “multi-task” in that way.

This would also be a great starter computer for a kid, or for someone who isn’t a power user and just needs a cheap box to get online. Or as a media player hooked up to your TV – I have mine hooked up to a 4k monitor and it properly outputs HDR10.

Across the board, It’s surprisingly capable, as you can see from the performance benchmarking scores:

    Geekbench CPU:
    – 3040 (multi-core)
    – 1191 (single core)
    Geekbench GPU:
    – OpenCL: 3016

Frankly, this mini-pc has exceeded all my expectations, doubly so given the aggressive price point.

The WI-6 Pro Mini PC, Intel 12th Gen N100 Mini Computer,16GB DDR4 RAM with 512GB SSD is really impressive. This is something of a bridge from a laptop to a desktop. All you need is a monitor, mouse and keyboard to get going. This is perfect for a second computer or even a first.

Frankly, I wasn’t expecting the performance I got from this little thing. It handles light to moderate loads with no problem. I was able to max out the CPU but with the ram it has, it never bogged down. This thing even under a load is whisper quiet. It does have a little fan in there but the central AC is louder than it. If you chose to mount this behind your monitor, you’ll rarely even notice it.

I does come with Win11 preloaded and the first thing it’ll want to do when you hook it up to the Net is update. For me, that was around half an hour.

There’s plenty of connectivity with this via USB ports. Since this doesn’t come with a DVD drive, I decided to buy an external DVD burner for a few bucks to install software. I otherwise rarely use a DVD drive anymore other than installing software. If you already have most of your software, this is perfect a second computer in the guest room, backup or wherever.

Besides the DVD burner, I connected a audio splitter to the headphones out jack to connect my computer speakers and a TV sound bar. Now, that is sound.

With two HDMI ports, you may chose to use it more with a few games. I did play a few games on it and installed steam. It didn’t seem to have a problem handling it. I’m sure the really graphic intensive games might slow it down, though.

I did look at several videos before writing this review. I looked at videos of a few more expensive a few cheaper, newer or whatever. For what you get with 16 gig of ram and a 512 gig SSD, I don’t see how anyone can buy these components separately and come out a head.

It does expand on the ram but you may want to reconsider that. It can only hold one stick of ram and to go higher, you’re going to have to have only one stick of bigger ram. That will be a little more expensive and you may not need it.

It does have a power button which is easy to turn on or off. But, if you mount it to the back of a monitor, that may be a bit awkward. You can configure it to wake which will solve that problem.

Before mounting it, decide where you want each cable to go. That will make for less cable mess. This basically minimizes your desktop real estate to simply a monitor and keyboard. Why not go for the big monitor or two? Putting a TV sound bar behind the monitor really will make a big difference in your sound.

This does come with a couple of HDMI cables, one long and one shorter which is always a welcome feature to have on hand when you need it. Given the fact this comes with Win11 already installed and a large SSD, you can’t go wrong with the price.
