This thing has literally transformed my acoustic guitar. I’ve never used a tuner. While I can tune 2 notes in perfect unison, I’ve never fully gotten to grips with the inherent tuning problems of guitars – particularly my acoustic with its non adjustable bridge. I’m always re-tuning to “sweeten” the sound depending on where I am on the neck. I’m never satisfied. If the open E sounds great, the open D sounds like garbage and so on. Moving higher up the neck, things are even worse. Tune for high positions, low positions sound like garbage. I’d actually begun to think that the problem was more serious, that my guitar’s intonation was just junk. And then I read about James Taylor’s “sweetened” tuning, and the fact that it was a preset in this tuner sealed the deal.

First thing I did when I received the Peterson was to try the sweetened acoustic preset. No need to think about how many cents to detune particular strings, it just reconfigures what those strings should be – you just get the strobe to a standstill as you normally would. The tuner is very accurate and responsive, and I was able to get each string bang on target. Played a few open chords. Every one of them sounded in tune. Played some barre chords higher up the neck. Same thing. Played some high position chords that have open strings mixed in. Any conflict was barely noticeable (usually it’s horrendous on my guitar). I played the thing for hours in absolute bliss, without once thinking “damn that sounds a little off.”

The thing even has a setting to sweeten DADGAD – a favorite tuning of mine which again I’ve always had trouble getting a “stable” tuning with. Tuned to the Peterson sweetened version, it just sounded incredible everywhere. Apparently you can also create your own presets for other tunings, which I’ll explore in the future.

If that weren’t enough, it also deals with another long standing frustration of mine – playing with a capo. You always have to make some tuning adjustments, and luckily the Peterson has a capo offset function so that you can still apply the sweetening preset to a capoed instrument. Unsurprisingly, this triggered another couple of hours of blissful playing as I enjoyed the sweet sound of a perfectly tuned 7th fret capoed guitar.

With all that in mind, I would probably be prepared to excuse any fiddliness in the design (others have complained), but luckily I didn’t find it very fiddly. Once I worked out how to position the clamp and the arm to get the screen facing you the right way up (harder than it looked for me!), I found the buttons reasonable to use. Yes they’re tiny, but they’re always gonna be tiny on a clip-on tuner. There’s only 3 of them so it’s never an issue to feel them out with your finger. The display is clear and functional, absolutely no issues with it at all.

No, they’re not exactly cheap as tuners go, but I’m completely happy with the value considering the quality and what it’s done for my guitar. Excellent!

A buddy encouraged me to purchase one of these. There really is a noticable difference between these and the other clip-on tuners. In my case, I’m using this for both electric bass and double bass.

The tuning is more precise than most, and the strobe function certainly helps.

One note to consider: These tuners DEVOUR batteries. You’ll burn through batteries at roughly three times the rate you’re used to. In the end, though, the precision is worth it.

Very quick (once you use it a few times) and very accurate. Tune up quickly on a noisy stage. No problem. Seems as precise as any strobe tuner, which is the only way to go. It is accurate enough to show you if your intonation needs a tweak.

This is a very accurate tuner. Occasionally when using other cheaper tuners I would think something didn’t sound right even when the tuner said my guitar was in tune. Since using this new tuner my guitar is Always in tune and sounds great! The only reason for the four stars is there’s so many options for alternative tuning it’s overly complicated! Sometimes trying to reset the unit or get it back to the original tuning option can take a long time!

These stroboclips are some of the highest quality tuners on the market. They are durable and robust, yet gentle enough to be used on quality guitars. They operate through vibration which creates a very accurate and true to pitch tuning. They are very easy to read with the screen brightness. The strobe function is perfect for dialing in exactly the tune you want. The size is perfect and it looks nice enough to not detract from the performance.

The Peterson StroboClip HD Clip-On Tuner is a must-have accessory for musicians of all levels, (I’m a guitarist) and it truly stands out in the world of tuners. Here are some of the features that made this tuner my top choice, after a long period of looking over my options:

First of all: Price. Look at the price of the larger units.

    No. Just – No.

Guitar/Bass adjustments: Spare yourself the torture of trying to get that perfect intonation with a standard tuner. The strobe tuner will give you what you’re after, every single time. I wouldn’t even attempt it with anything else.

Precision Tuning: The StroboClip HD offers incredibly accurate tuning with a precision of ±0.1 cent. This level of accuracy is essential for musicians who really need to be in tune, especially when recording, or working with other musicians you want to stay friends with! A fine strobe tuner like this ensures that every note is perfectly in tune.

Wide Tuning Range: This tuner supports a broad range of instruments, from guitars and basses to violins and ukuleles. It even accommodates alternate tunings, making it versatile enough for various musical styles and preferences.

High-Definition Display: The bright, easy-to-read HD display is a standout feature. It provides clear visual feedback, allowing you to see your tuning status at a glance, even in low-light conditions. The strobe display mode is particularly helpful for precise tuning, giving you a visual representation of how close you are to being in tune. It took me very little getting use to.

Clip-On Design: The compact and lightweight clip-on design makes it incredibly convenient to use. It securely attaches to your instrument, allowing for hands-free tuning. Plus, its small size means it can easily fit in your gig bag or pocket.

Long Battery Life: The StroboClip HD is designed for longevity, with a battery life that can last for up to 24 hours of continuous use. This means you can rely on it for extended practice sessions or performances without worrying about running out of power. (You’ll be especially glad for this if you gig or practice like a beast!)

User-Friendly Interface: This is a completely intuitive interface, and it makes it easy for musicians of all skill levels to use. With just a few clicks, you can switch between tuning modes and settings, making it a hassle-free experience.

Durable Build: Constructed with high-quality materials, the StroboClip HD is built to withstand the punishment of regular use. Whether you’re practicing at home or performing on stage, you can trust that this tuner will hold up. Fumble-fingers here can personally vouch for it!

Affordable Quality: Given its advanced features and precision, the StroboClip HD offers exceptional value for money. It’s an investment that pays off in the form of improved tuning accuracy and overall performance. I wouldn’t be without it, and I’m giving this 5 well-earned stars!
