Petmate Self Warming Round Bed, 19.5 Inches, Barn Red and Cream

I bought the rectangular 30”x 24” pet bed. Well made. The sides and bottom are 4” thick and very soft and cushioned well. My cats loves this bed. He curls up on one side or stretches out. Perfect. I am going to order another of these in round if available for my other cat. The 17” round bed is too small for full sized cat who likes to stretch.

Our 2 cats love these! They look and feel exactly as depicted in the pictures. Ours appear to have the warming reflective material inside from the sound of it (a couple of reviews noted that some came without it).

It took the cats a couple of days to acclimate. I suggest putting a tee shirt that you’ve slept in inside the bed. Or even sleep with the bed as a pillow (ha!). Point being to have it smell like you. Cats are sensitive to smells. A newly manufactured smell (not that I noted any) can be off-putting to some cats. Placing it in their favorite resting spot cat help too. For the first couple of days when I put my cat in it, she’d jump out. I came home on the 3rd and she was curled up in it. So give it some time.

Now she adores it! This cat used to live in my lap. Now she goes to the bed half of the time, kneading it happily.

I looked at beds in various retail, pet, and discount dollar stores. Nothing came close to this for both price, quality, and size. I didn’t want an oversized one.

My 8lb cat fits easily, with room to spare (see photo). Mom’s 13lb cat fills it in a cozy ball. If she stretches, her tail hangs out. She likes to use the raised side as a pillow sometimes.

The pictures don’t show it well, but the front is lower than the back. This feature makes it easy for the cat to step in, especially ones with arthritis.

It’s well-made and well-sewn. The exterior is a thick, wine/burgundy color corduroy. The description says “barn red”, but that’s not a good name for the color. Some photos make it look orangy-red, or dark red, but it’s not. Definitely a nice bright wine color. It’s very pretty. The bottom is silky material with little anti-slip dots. The interior is beige “faux”, fluffy sheepskin. The bottom, and all of the bed, is well cushioned.

I don’t write a lot of reviews, but I would recommend this one over and over again to family, friends, or anyone needing a small cat/pet bed. Awesome value.

Update: 3 weeks after purchase, my cat continues to adore this bed. 2nd photo is her “making bread” in it.

I saw a cat bed of similar size at Dollar General for about half the price of this one. But this one has better build quality, thicker padding, and nicer/thicket fabrics. The DG one was lined with a thin velour, not the thicker faux sheepskin, and the outer material was much thinner too. Im not sure it would hold up as well to being tossed in the washer, even on a gentle cycle.

I decided to buy a new cat bed for my 10 year old cat for Christmas and came upon this one. I wanted a good-quality bed without spending too much money. This one had great reviews and a really good price tag so I ordered it. When it arrived, I gave it to my cat right away. At first she didn’t seem too interested and gravitated to her other bed which I just moved into our bedroom. Then, after a day or two, she could be found snuggling happily into her new bed and she spends most of her sleeping and napping hours in this bed.

One of the big reasons why I was drawn to this bed is the fact that it is self-warming and, since my cat is starting to get a little older and tends to spend most of her time seeking out warm places where she is either laying in direct sunlight or on top of the counter when the dishwasher is on its drying cycle, I wanted her to have a warmer bed. I love the fact that it doesn’t use electricity like an electric blanket or heating pad. Instead it utilizes material that reflects the cat’s own body heat to keep them warmer. When my cat’s laying in her bed, I have felt underneath her and it’s nice and warm but not so hot that it’s concerning so I feel safe with her using it.

The bed is also incredibly soft, plushy and made of polyester fibers. The outside of the bed feels velvety-soft and the inside is so comfortable for my cat that I don’t need to put a blanket in her bed. I purchased the “Warm Spice With Creme” color and it is a beautiful color. The red is almost like a burgundy and the creme is an off-white color. My cat is right around 10 pounds and she fits very comfortably in this bed with lots of room to spare so cats who are larger should have no problem fitting in the bed.

This cat bed was a great purchase for us and my cat loves it. She spends almost all of her sleeping time in it and we are very happy with how much she loves the bed. The quality is great, the price was excellent, and I wouldn’t hesitate to purchase another of these beds in the future. I highly recommend this bed to keep your kitty warm and cuddly!

I have the larger version of the Aspen Self Warming bed. I purchased this one for my older cat, as she tends to curl up rather than stretch out. She weighs about 12 pounds, and she fit into this bed perfectly. It was one of her favorite places this past winter.
I recommend these beds. They retain and reflect the cat’s body heat without worry about electric cords.
Attractive color and cozy. Cat approved.
(I haven’t washed it yet.)

While this is so pretty and very soft and the sides do hold up somewhat, my cat has found it to be too wobbly and the seams perhaps insecure under his step. He wouldn’t use it until I added a thin sherpa pet blanket over the top of it and now he’s in Heaven. He is much more secure about getting into it and curling up. I gave this four stars only because if I hadn’t invested in the extra blanket, it would’ve had to be returned unused.

The bed is just the right size for my old girl. Quite plush and seems very well made. She is still getting used to it. It may be that it keeps her too warm. Time will tell. For the price it is a great bed for the kitties who like to be snuggly warm.
