Had a lot of damage to electronic items due to lightning, insurance did not pay for all of it. So hopefully, I have learned a lesson. We have installed whole house surge protectors in the breaker panels, also these have been installed at any expensive electronic device, including appliances. I have used Tripp Lite for several years now. I chose this particular model because they accept power cords into the sides, which makes them nice if you are using them behind a piece of furniture. They are designed for travelers, and the plug does retract into the device by means of a sliding apparatus. If your receptacle is new and stiff, you may need to hold the sliding part so that the prongs are extended in order to get it plugged into the receptacle. I did not rate traveling, as I use these only at home.

Sin duda alguna la mejor compra para mantener a salvo los electronicos conectados a la corriente todo el tiempo obviamente no es un no break pero aun asi mantienen encendido por una fracción de segundos respaldando los aparatos enchufados, recomendaria este supresor de picos si tu presupuesto es limitado aunque luce pequeño resiste bastante posee tres polos en el conector cumple con todo lo esperado por mucho esta es la opcion gracias a Amazon y tambien a Tripplite.

The beauty of this surge protector is its compactness. I can easily toss it into my laptop bag or overnight bag without it bulking things up, and the cable wrap keeps everything neat. I especially like that it plugs into the third AC jack in back during storage. The power cord is of decent gauge and appears to be solidly built. Time will tell, but this looks and feels great.
Be aware that the total power output of the USB ports is a combined 1A. If you have two devices plugged in, each will only get 500mA. 500mA is plenty of power to charge an old-fashioned flip phone, or possibly perform a slow charge (6-10 hours until fully charged) on some low-power smartphones. However, it is NOT enough to charge a typical modern smartphone, let alone give you a quick top-off at the airport.
This isn’t a problem for us, as we have an
Anker 5-Port USB Charger
that we take when traveling. This plugs into one of the AC power outlets and gives plenty of juice to charge our two high-end smartphones, our two tablets, and a spare battery. Since we’re only plugging in one charger instead of five, this leaves the other two outlets free for our two laptop chargers.
That makes this surge protector the perfect size for us: exactly enough outlets, while being compact enough (and rugged enough) to survive frequent travel.

I bought this so my college student could protect their computer as they moved around campus, and charge their USB devices also. In use a couple months. I’ve used Tripplite surge protectors for years, and recently researched the latest UL 1449 edition 3 changes (ok, that edition came out in 2008; sorry for the delay). My general surge protector buying advice:
1. Look carefully for a low number for Voltage Protection Rating (VPR, which is new terminology in the edition 3 spec). This is often called the let-thru or clamping voltage. Lower is better; less voltage from the surge reaching your equipment. 400 Volts VPR is the best i’ve seen. TRAVELER3USB has it. I don’t know how critical it is to protect all three wires (Line to Neutral, Line to Ground, Neutral to Ground) but i’d rather have them all protected. TRAVELER3USB protects them all at 400 V.
2. Get high enough Joules rating. Some surge protectors are only 200-780 Joules. I’d buy 500-1000 Joules if the price was low. I’m satisfied with 1050 Joules in the TRAVELER3USB.
3. Don’t buy something unless you check 1 and 2 above. No specs? Don’t buy. Junk likes to hide specs. Sometimes you may have to check the manufacturer’s site to find all the specs. Tip: it’s a good sign, though not a quality guarantee, if the online description and/or back of the product (sometimes visible in online pictures) says Type 3 SPD (Surge Protective Device), Voltage Protection Rating X (L-N, L-G, N-G). Type 3, SPD and VPR are terminology new to edition 3 of UL 1449. 2nd edition and earlier were called Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors and they had a less rigorous test. You have to trust the manufacturer that they have a legitimate, not counterfeit, UL 1449 rating.
4. Indicator light that protection is still working (the MOV’s aren’t burned out).
The Tripplite TRAVELER3USB is good on all of the above. It also has protected equipment insurance and a limited lifetime warranty. If the “Protected” light ever goes out on the Tripplite, I plan to call for a warranty replacement (not 100% sure they’ll replace it, but I thought I saw an Amazon review somewhere that said they did).
If you are an Amazon Prime member, and don’t need portability but would like more outlets, consider the APC P8U2, 8-Outlet Surge Protector 2630 Joules with USB Charger Ports. It has a better/higher Joule rating, but the VPR is not as good: L-N rating of 400V, L-G and N-G 500V.

I use the device when traveling. It is compact, but quite functional. I do find the cord to be shorter than I need on occasions. So, it is good to make sure that you also travel with an extension cord for those occasions.

I have used plenty of the excellent Tripp-Lite Blocks for surge protection over the years. But, not seeing them on the page and needing a few more for odds-and-ends uses. I bought 2 of the Traveler surge protectors. They work great and, furthermore, the distributor of these products for Eaton/Tripp were patient with me as I worked through an issue of registering the Travelers with them. (With the Blocks there was always a demand for registration for the insurance coverage. The Good news is that you no longer need to register your Tripp-Lite products to receive the warrantee in case of failure.)
