Definitely not a gaming PC but still it’s a good work horse. I found that this pc can hold its own in heavy tasks like Blender and Photoshop. Having 10 cores really helps in those situations. I did upgrade the ram to 32gb because 16gb is just not enough anymore. Windows 11 loves ram so it is very worth the upgrade. Getting all of the bloatware off this PC is very difficult. Most of the easy stuff like the antivirus subscription service can be removed but the HP stuff is a bit trickier. Like I said the ram can be replaced and is not soldered. The NVME drive is also replaceable but sadly there is not a slot for a secondary storage device. The screen is so-so and at 1080p it looks ok. If you are going for a productivity PC and price is an issue this is great because you get above average CPU performance, and expandability for the sacrifice of luxury feel. It won’t feel like a MacBook but will perform like one with a bit of tuning for a decent price.

Just attaching a photo of the under shell removed, as the stock photos represent the product well enough otherwise.

    I’ll start with the positives:

*Setup is quick. About 10 minutes going through the standard windows activation menus and you are on your desktop. Comes with Windows 11 installed, which I prefer over 10.

    * Ease of access. Its only 4 standard phillip screws on the underside that are in clear view (nothing under a warranty sticker or any other annoyances). After that you can take a plastic pic around the outside to release the plastic retention clips and that is it.

*Small but decent nvme ssd. Comes with a 512gb Intel 660p installed. Decently quick pcie 3 drive. Drive is easily upgradeable by the user as long as you have enough knowledge on how create and install windows from a usb stick.

*Intel Iris Xe integrated graphics are better than I expected. Ran Roblox and (un-modded) Minecraft like a champ. I was able to get some 5 year old games running decently as well at medium to medium-high settings. Quite impressed.

*The ram isn’t soldered! This was my biggest shock at this price point. 9 times out of 10, you are stuck with soldered ram sub $1000 priced laptops. I definitely recommend picking up a 32gb ddr4 set out the gate here.

*Runs smooth enough for work tasks like excel, word, power point etc. No issues at all with casual browsing or streaming as well.

*Speakers are more robust than I expected. Loud and clear. Not deafening loud, but good enough to watch content with the speakers alone.

    And the negatives:

*Price to quality is off here. The keyboard is clunky and hard to type proficiently on compared to my older hp laptops at a similar price point. The entire laptop is pure plastic. Trackpad leaves a lot to be desired and definitely would just grab a cheap mouse over that trackpad. I think at $730 msrp, they took too many shortcuts with the build quality. Should be priced closer to $650. That being said, this is definitely a great buy if you can get it under $650.

    * There’s no expandable storage. Purely running off a single nvme slot. Sure, you could get an external drive to house most of your things (which most users will probably do), but this is a huge oversight.

    * Laptop gets quite hot and drains the battery very quickly while running mild games and even streaming. Kind of to be expected with the processor and the integrated graphics, but still a disappointment.

Overall, feels like a decent laptop that is just priced a bit off. Don’t expect wonders out of it and grab it on sale and you’ll be happy with it.

Until very recently, all of my laptops were HP, but have moved on to a Galaxy Book. I ordered this for my spouse who’s been using the same laptop since 1982 – a 45lb brick of a machine that he’s continually upgraded, and duct taped together to keep working.

As a gamer, graphics are important for him. This is not sold as a gaming laptop, but as a productivity machine. The graphics card isn’t designed for games, but games do render well enough on it for the causal gamer. For the non-casual gamer, by lowering the image settings to low quality 720, even graphically intense games render and perform well with no glitches or hiccups in motion. You lose a lot from what you’d get on a 4k TV, but it’s perfectly acceptable in terms of performance.

Unlike a lot of manufacturers, HP is still using the same old charging cable that they’ve been using forever – the two-piece clunky charger that only fits in HP machines, instead of the USB-C chargers that lots of laptop makers have moved on to. The good news is that if you’re replacing an older HP laptop, the same charger will work for this one so now you have a spare.

The power button is in a strange place. It’s located between the Print Screen and Delete keys. There is no fingerprint unlock.

The ten key has a standard layout. The mousepad is large and set slightly to the left.

One thing that I absolutely hate about all of the Windows 11 PCs is that they will not let you set the PC up without signing into a Microsoft account. There is no way to skip or get around the screen other than refusing to set up the internet connection by saying “I don’t have internet”. It’ll just sit there, using up all of your electricity while patiently waiting for you to sign in. There is no “cancel” or “skip” option. That’s lame. Not HP’s fault, but it’s absurd to require it. To get around it, check that you don’t have internet and it will permit a setup without signing in.

Also, kind of lame for a PC with so much power – the keys aren’t backlit.

All the lame aside, it’s a great lightweight machine that works for a variety of uses. 4.25/5.
